Was wrong? I'm still wrong.

In the spirit of Danno's post (a fine one, I might add), I think it might be worth pointing out somethings we might STILL be wrong about:

(1) I still think that Brooks is a middle of the pack STARTER in the NFL.

(2) I still think that Duece is a top five back.

(3) I think our WR corps will be just fine if we can keep Pathon.

(4) I still think we need a top flight CB.

(5) I think we have a top tier set of DEs.

(6) I think Ashley Ambrose is a fine nickle back (or possibly safety).

(7) I still think the team is not cursed.

(8) Losing T-rex will have no impact on our running game (on its own).

Things I've acutally given up on:

(1) Our DL will be dominant. (Yikes, it is hard to believe that I ever thought that.)

(2) Our OL will be fine without Fontenot.

(3) All we need is a pretty good CB and a stud SLB. (Wow, was I ever wrong about that one.)

(4) We will be 9-7 or 8-8. (Snif.)

When say we do you really mean the Sunshiners?
Don\'t wag so hard Gator.

Detillier thought this team would have to be really lucky to even win 8 games this year. I\'m not sure that anyone really understood how bad this team really was.

I hate to say so, but I predicted 6-10 at the very best on another board and was almost hunted down and killed.
Let\'s face it. We stink from top to bottom. Seems like all, and I mean all of the organization has quit. :casstet:

PRESEASON: They looked bad, even worse than the year before and have a history of starting the season like the way they look in preseaon. Add that to the fact everyone knew we had a bad defense, and didn\'t draft a position of need untill the 3rd round. It was predictable and the signs were there.

No magic act here, just a GOOD BULL-S dectector
Agreed, what it boils down to is the organization\'s utter mismanagment of free agency. On draft day, we have for several years been banking on our draftee\'s being able to come right in and start. I would also note that Haslett and friends have a history of using draft picks as a stick to hit our starters with -- the messages of Deuce to Ricky, Smith to Howard, Devery to Donte, Sullivan to Jackson, et al.

Coupled with running off proven starters due to personality conflict, Haslett has left this team up to it\'s neck in ... well ... gators.

Nickelback, maybe but since he\'s out for the rest of the season, I hope we make upgrades nest year so that he won\'t have to be our nickelback. And Safety. I thought about it too but I think definetely not. He\'s just not physical enough, he\'s not the best tackler, and he doesn\'t have the speed to make up for this. He would maybe be good for getting interceptions with his footbal savvy knowledge, but I would not want him being the guy standing between a running back and the end zone.
I would however give Keyou Craver one last shot for the team as a safety. I would put him at the bottom of the depth chart, but I\'d give him the chance.

Gator,

At first when I read your reply, I was confused. Then when I went back and read my post, I realized my mistake. I really meant \"I\" where I wrote \"we\" there. I have no means for accounting for that mental error, but I meant to take the heat myself (and still do).

FOB,

I agree somewhat. I think that Ashley is a moderately skilled tackler. However, he can REALLY see the field. His speed is gone, but the few times I could see him he was reading the play so well! He makes good plays against the running game, and while not a dominating tackler, I think he\'s got solid fundamentals and a good work ethic.

I\'m not opposed to giving Keyou another chance, but I think he doesn\'t have it in him to be a baller.

At first I growled about the Will Smith/Darren Howard thing, too, but I think I\'m starting to see the sense in it now.

As much as it seemed like complete insanity to take another DE with our first pick (when there were such pressing needs elsewhere), it\'s also true that the Broncos and Jets had undermined our hopes of landing D.J. Williams or Johnathan Vilma. Hindsight\'s 20-20 (or 50-50 if you\'re Pat Dye), so it\'s easy to see now that maybe Dontarrius Thomas would\'ve been a smart choice. But before a game was ever played, I think more than a few people would\'ve thought the staff had lost their ever-loving minds.

My point is, the organization doesn\'t want to pony up the money to designate Darren Owward as our franchise player again, probably with good reason. Will Smith was as much a stick to beat Howard with as he was simply the best prospect (note, I said PROSPECT, none of that hindsight crap) available at that point. At least now we\'ll have a promising young DE without having to blow so much money to keep Howard again. And with the cap problems we stand to face this offseason, I think it might\'ve been a wise decision.

As for everything else I\'ve been wrong about ... I ain\'t done being wrong yet!!!

At the risk of blaming one person..... doesn\'t it all come back to the coach after all his record with the saints is mediocre at best. The great thing about the NFL is it\'s unpredictability.... one season you can have the Bucs winning the superbowl the next they seem to be falling apart.
However if you have a strong leader who can get the best out of his people even average players caan shine.
I think it may be time for a change of management?
