New Orleans Saints safety Jairus Byrd has shown up with a vengeance. The Saints' top free-agent acquisition this offseason took the field for a full practice for the first time Tuesday and then Wednesday night he was all over the field.

Byrd, a three-time All-Pro with the Buffalo Bills, showed all of the instincts and big-play ability Wednesday night that made him a must-have during the offseason.

Byrd intercepted two passes and deflected a touchdown pass from Drew Brees to tight end Jimmy Graham to wow the crowd at Mandeville High School while also impressing his teammates and coaches.

"He is another guy who got his hands on a couple of balls, one of them was a really good play," said Saints coach Sean Payton. "That's encouraging.

"It has been a step process, a little bit longer for Jairus. But it's good to have him out there on your team."

Byrd came up with big interception of a pass by backup quarterback Luke McCown in which he looked like a center fielder playing a fly ball. Byrd also got great position on Graham, who has a considerable size advantage, to break up a potential touchdown pass from Brees.

I feel sorry for matt Ryan, byrd is going to make him hold that ball longer and Cam or galette will feed off that

No you got it wrong. Cam and Galette will make him get rid of the ball quicker and Byrd and Vaccaro will feed off that ;-) ;-)

Bryd IS the QB of the defense. Not really surprised to read this. He has been a legitimate ball hawk since his early days in Buffalo.

Just wait until he shakes the 'rust' off.
