Kicker

Demke has the stronger leg of our rostered kickers...

Graham is the experienced veteran kicker including inclement weather...

The G'nats are going to release K Brandon McManus (6' 3", 201 lbs)...

McManus routinely has kickoffs exit the endzone by ten (10) yds...

I'd like the Saints to claim him and bring him in for a look...

I would hate to see Graham get the job. Demke has out played him all summer.

looks like the Titans also will have to cut someone with a decent leg...not much experience, but...

interesting that there hasn't been a single word out there about Hartley

I saw a video of Hartley somewhere. Some sort of kicker clinic and he was trying 70 yds field goals. lol

Kicker is the only position that I am aware of where college experience directly translates to NFL ability and experience. Most college kickers kick the majority of their career out doors so coming to the NFL may actually make things a little easier.

College crowds can be just as large and loud.
The defense doesn't affect a kickers accuracy.
Difference between the ball is a 1/2 a stripe and a very slight size difference.

Everything else is moot.

Now that I think about it, kicking is similar to golf.:bng:

Re: Kicker

Also Jay Feely, veteran kicker @Arizona got waived.

Not sure about his overall numbers or his age or if he's still any good or not, but at least we do know he kicked in Seattle and SF twice a year....kicking in the atmospherically perfect Dome is not the problem.... We need the type of guy who can kick in the mud and rain and dirt and in long sloppy wet grass, on the road...

Idk. I hate not trusting the kicker. It was so automatic with Morton Anderson. I didnt even sweat. Now I get all queasy when our kickers line up. I'll never feel that sense of security again. I miss it.

This is the reason that I like playing four preseason games. I need time to get to know them.

Re: Kicker

Dimeke made all 4 kicks today, Graham 3 of 4.

I'm leaning toward Dimeke, could be our kicker of the future.

Yeah. It's been essentially even with Dimeke holding what I'd call a slight edge. All we need now is a waterboy, and I'm still available...

I was thinking about that the other day, we had the best kicker in the NFL of all time. We also went nowhere. No thanks, I'll take this current kicker situation along with the queasy feeling.

Re: Kicker

I don't trust Graham. Bengals folks warned us that he's not a clutch kicker, and they had him in his prime. He missed a freakin' preseason extra point from 33 yards out this year...that tells me right there that he has lapses in concentration. And those misses in Seattle in the playoffs still doesn't sit too well for me, regardless of the weather or the "crowd" noise.

Give me Dimke.

I would say that is true 90% of the time. Although I wasn't alive at the time of Russell Erxleben, I've heard some terrifying stories.

I know Euphoria is not losing any sleep over the kicker situation. But you better believe Coach is, he is still plagued with Hartley nightmares.

Re: Kicker

Pick whoever can kick off the deepest to give TM's leg some rest.

Then go for 2 all the time and go for it on 4th if we're on the plus side of the field. Nothing stops the B&G Express this year - ok, well just the celebration in NOLA in mid-February... :)

Well, sure, he knew if he tried a 25-yarder he'd miss and look stupid. At least with the 70-yarder nobody expects him to make it. ;)

Anyway, I'm Team Dimke, but I think we should keep both kickers.

I'm sorry Beast, but I have to call bull**** on this one. I can think of at least two games last year that didn't happen for us because of one player's toe. When we're looking for a home field track to February, two games are huge!

Re: Kicker

Kicker is a huge position, especially in close games were every point counts. Brees marching us down the field with no time left for a FG attempt to win the game and secure a higher playoff spot? No question how important a kicker can be.
Remember guys, without a clutch kicker (prior to the mental breakdown) we still don't have a superbowl, again NO question how important.

jeanpierre 08-28-2014 10:54 PM

Re: Kicker

Shayne Graham or Derek Dimke?

exiled 08-29-2014 02:35 AM

Re: Kicker

I could justify either one... though I never thought I would say this (even when I was young) I lean towards youth... the Psychic boost of him making the team after bouncing around for the past couple of years would be big... hopefully the kind of thing that would keep him around for a while...

But I said exactly the same thing with Hartley... who when he started with us... I was thrilled about...

TheOak 08-29-2014 04:25 AM

Re: Kicker

If I'm the one evaluating I go with Dimke. He was 2/3 (I count the miss because kickers need to kick cold bore) and at the least equal to Graham this preseason. When it's equal you go with youth. If you don't count the miss he is 100% for the preseason. Graham missed 1 XP this preseason. They both have a cold bore miss.

Crusader 08-29-2014 05:05 AM

Re: Kicker

I'd go with Dimke because of youth. Graham has been around half the league and there is a reason for that.

It doesnt matter who we go with. As soon as he misses, we're gonna start b**ching about how we should have went with the other guy! lol

Mmmmm. I work with some folk who are all over the gluten free thing. They'd show up at my house with six packs of gluten free beer. Then I'd notice at the end of the evening all the good beer'd be gone and my fridge would be filled with that gluten free stuff. I asked my buddy who truly is celiac and he told me , "It ain't bad."

Encouraged, I popped one open, took a swig and when he saw the look on my face he said, "It's not good either."

So yeah, our kickers ain't bad...

There's a good reason for it, I'm sure. I'm not seeing it though.
I was hoping Dimke would make it.

Kickers are the most easily movable piece. If they didn't feel good about what we had then pick up another.
