At the time they denied it, the contact hadn't been signed. I'm sure there are all kinds of legal reasons you don't want something like that known before it's actually done.

Re: Galette signs extension with Saints

Walter's grade on the extension:

Saints extend DE/OLB Junior Galette (4 years, $41.5M; $23M guaranteed): C+ Grade
This is a lot of money for a player who's had just one season of more than five sacks. Granted, Junior Galette was awesome last year, registering 12 sacks and not being inept in coverage, but that was his only season as a starter. The Saints might have been better off waiting a year to extend him just in case 2013 was a fluke.

I don't hate this move overall. Galette was a very good player in 2013 and deserves to be compensated. I just feel like it would've been in New Orleans' best interest to wait a bit to pay its top edge rusher.

Re: Galette signs extension with Saints

Does anyone have any details on the structure? It may be severely backloaded, and IIRC its an extension to his current contract right? So it could really be a 6 year deal with very tolerable cap hits for 4 of those 6 years.

I believe Mike Tripplet had tweeted that this years cap hit remained the same, 4 million I believe it was...

EDIT: Spotrac says this: Junior Galette Contract, Salary Cap Details & Breakdowns

3 mil hit this year, with 6 mil in dead money left over
