Hey, I appreciate the stance you both have taken. But just ask yourself, do we know what Haslett can do for this team? Yes we do. Do we know what AB can do for this team? Yes we do. Do we know what medicority has gotten us the past 5 years? Yes we do. Has it gotten us anything positive? No it has not. So if we are not at the top, we need to be at the bottom because we all know and have fact, no what ifs, that being mediocre has gotten us jack. The bottom at least brings change, whether it will be for better or worse noone can say. But can either of you honestly say that it can get worse than missing the playoffs the last four years, botching draft after draft, and having an inability to develop players on this team that we currently have and seem to be content with keeping? I remember earlier in the season when Ic alled for them to lose out, several weeks ago, I was told by many, including you BNB, that there was no way no matter what happened short of winning a playoff game that Haslett would stay. Now a couple of insignificant wins later it is all but certain that at this point even if we lose out he will stay. We are all gonna be worse off for that decision, so why wouldn;t we wanna give something new a try?

He \"should\" be, is much different than saying he \"would\" be. Don\'t ask me to predict the actions of this team, it\'s been hard as hell doing that over the past 26 years. I still think that we need a coaching change, but i would never guarantee something on behalf of those who I have no control over.

While doing a search to see where I said that, I found this little gem by rusta, not to change subjects or anything:
http://www.blackandgold.net/site/mod...=5943#pid30892

joe used to be one of my favorite guys on this team too

however when there were trade talks in the offseason i found myself almost hoping a deal would happen

at this point i think an arguement can be made, it might be somewhat flimsy but not out of the question, that the saints should start donte/pathon and let horn share time with henderson as the #3 WR, and i can almost guarantee that this is joe\'s last year with the saints
LOL!

The waiting drove me mad....

I\'ve suffered for 35 plus years watching the Saints lose out and get high picks, new coaches and its gotten me SQUAT!

I wanna see them win NOW! Right frickin now!

There\'s no guarantee that losing out, getting a new staff, and a higher draft pick will actually improve this team at all. In fact history shows just the opposite.

The rumor is Haslet returns, but with new assisitanats. Thats hope enough for me.

Show me someone who wants to lose and I\'ll show you a loser.

I\'m going to ask this question seriously - why do you want this team to make the playoffs?
Because it\'s one of the goals that every NFL team has every season.
Is it all of a sudden a good team? Can they win in the playoffs? Can they get to the SB let alone win it? I think the answer is No on all counts - so getting to to playoffs at 8-8 or 7-9 gives us the ominous distinction of being the least worst of a bunch of bad teams.
I agree it\'s no on all three counts. However in striving to get into the playoffs, maybe this team can show something that frankly we haven\'t seen the last 3 Decembers: heart. Just show a grind it out win at all costs mentality that teams that are not mediocre whot.
Now, would getting to the playoffs hurt? Could it mean Haslett and other coaches have a greater chance of keeping their jobs? Could there be less of a shake up in the front office and amongst the players? Could it mean the same old in FA and the draft? Could it mean that we miss out on good available coaches and an opportunity to finally usher in change? Yes, yes, and yes...
Beating Dallas has already hurt on this side of the ledger as out draft position next year has slid towards the middle of the round again.
So my question remains - why do you want to make the playoffs?

And please don\'t give me that \"anything can happen in the playoffs\" stuff b/c no, this team can\'t win more than one game, and that one will likely be against another less than stellar team like Minnesota or Seattle.
The only answer I can give is that we want to make the playoffs because it\'s a goal that the team should strive to reach. It represents a step even though the record will be about the same as last year. It gives the team the opportunity to play one game alone on national TV. Striving for it gives the team, the defense especially, to show that they are not crap against one very strong playoof team (Atlanta) and another playoff contender that\'s been very very hot in recent weeks (Carolina).

Truth be told, why should anyone other than Philly even bother to play in the NFC playoffs?

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

At the risk of being either flamed here, or being called \"pessimistic\" & \"negative,\" I think that the discussion is kinda moot. What I said in the previous post is that I truly don\'t believe that the Saints CAN win out. They may squeek by Tampa, perform a miracle with Atlanta, or Carolina, but not both.

What amazes me is that we as fans look at a team who has choked with their own fate in their hands for the past 3-4 years and then HOPE that they do something entirely out of character. I HOPE that they win out because I love the team, and want it to do well. I live and die with this bunch every season.

There are two pages of text by you same guys who post here, about what a craphead Brooks is and how we need to trade him, then come to this post and we all want him to be the \"savior\" of this season. What\'s wrong with this picture? I don\'t like Brooks, I have never liked Brooks, and I don\'t believe that he has either the heart, the will, the passion, or the intelligence to be a winning QB in the NFL. That\'s my opinion, and what I continue to say is that with the poor defense, the inconsistent, leaderless offense, and the ridiculous management decisions of this franchise, that we won\'t rise to the occasion.

I like this forum a lot. It is, seriously, the most intelligent and well run group of the lot. I have a high regard and respect for those who post here because we have civil and well thought opinions for whatever topic that we post about. But, looking at what we have said in a number of threads regarding poor play, poor coaching, and poor management and then looking at this thread, the opinions are contradictory.

I\'ll go on record as saying that I want the Saints to win in my heart. I\'ll also go on record as saying I don\'t believe that they will make the playoffs or if they do go very deep into them, because primarily of the lack of defense, the lack of leadership on the offense, and the attitude of certain (Brooks mostly) players on this team and this is from watching what they have done in the recent past and what my brain tell me.

Logic, BnB, tells us at very least that cleaning house would force change. Change brings opportunity. The change COULD make the team worse, yes, but they could also get better. If nothing changes, do you think this team, after 4 years, will magically wake up and start playing together - start playing smart football - start living up to their potential? I feel overly confident that nothing will change with Haslett at the helm. Great deeds require great risk. Fire \'em all and maybe two years or three years from now you\'ve got a real chance, but if not, what have you lost?

Heck with the playoffs ... I\'m wondering if we\'ll even win a divisional GAME this season!

Of course, I\'d like us to win out. Like all of us, I support the team no matter how unhappy I am with them. But each of these teams has already beaten us once, and the Panthers game was possibly our most embarrasing showing (or lack thereof) of the year.

I ain\'t holdin\' my breath...

im the first to wish for a new coaching staff and some new players. but our d has played better the last 2 weeks. if we can make the playoffs ill take it. but only if we can come out in the next three games and look good doing so. i dont want to make the playoffs playing the way we have this season. but if we got our act together over the next three weeks and played well and won every game and mafe the playoffs it be nice to watch them in january for once. so im hoping but i see us loosing two of our fianl three.

but hey if were keeping has no matter what then **** lets make the playoffs for us at least
