You play back and limit the big play, giving your defense more opportunities to make plays; it's called a bend but don't break defense.
The only person who runs a 4.2 on the Falcons is Antone Smith. Hester's 40 doesn't tell you but like you said, we all know he is pretty fast as well.

Lemme rephrase; faster/quicker than most corners/safeties... That's why you play with a cushion

I think the DBs are more to blame than the DLine. A lot of times we rushed 4 and pressure was coming but Ryan delivered quickly. If we rush 4, guys shouldn't be wide open immediately.

This is probably the worst freakout I have ever seen on B&G.

We were giving the Falcon's recs a huge cushion. Maybe RR expected our pass rush to throttle their o-line?

Re: Its not THAT bad

I was expecting more from our D-line. Especially going against backup tackles in the second half. I was quite surprised to see the big cushions from our DBs. If you play like that and don't generate any passrush just about any Qb will pick you apart.

Cooks seems to be everything we have hoped. Good hands and great speed. My favorite play of his was on one of the Ingram runs when he placed a really nice cut-block to spring the runner.

Ingram looked really solid. He is getting to be the back I was hoping for when we drafted him. PT also looked really good.

The whole O in general looked sharp. A little to much pressure on Brees at times but the O-line looked good.

And about calling the Falcons a west coast offence; they are not. As a previous poster stated, they are a vertical offence and the great thing about a vertical offense is that a lot of times sending guys deep opens up the underneath routes. Dink and dunk and west coast is not the same thing.

W.T. Sherman is my favorite General. After all he did order Atlanta to be burned to the ground.

They are going to make a lot of defenses look bad. Our offense is looking awesome. Cooks looks as advertised and has all the potential to be ROY. We will destroy these guys in the Super Dome. We basically spotted them two scores and still took them to over time.

I think overtime rules blow. It should be like the playoffs so the first field goal can't win it unless the other team gets a chance and blows it.
Yea, I'm pissed, DOUBLE pissed because I had to watch this crap on DVR and couldn't go through it with my fellow Who Dates.
We have a playoff team and we will get at least one more shot at them.
Uh... The OT rules ARE like the playoffs now. We did get a chance and we DID blow it.

And we bent but didn't br.. oh wait... We broke nearly every single time.

We have played these guys before when they were healthy and our defense was bad, and yet we still played much better in those games than we did in this game. You don't play that far back. It doesn't matter how fast someone is. We have speed too. If you play that far back, they will bleed you to death, which is exactly what happened. There were a couple of big plays downfield, but it was mostly intermediate crap and there were no defenders in sight.
blackangold likes this.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

exactly... and to make matters worse when the defenders tried to come up and make a tackle they missed which lead to even more big plays.

The more I re-watch the game and think about it, the more I have to say the scheme was ****ed up. ATL is known for a dink-and-dunk offense and we let them play their game all day.

In my mind this loss is squarely on the shoulders of Rob Ryan. Just my opinion.
