Last I checked they were trying to score a TD. TD's aren't guaranteed. You score them when you can.

Exactly what I thought, I think the running out of bounds could have been handled better seen as we had 3 timeouts, but you get a TD when you can, there would have been a larger uproar if we took time off the clock and failed to get a TD anyway

Re: Clock management at end of regualtion

Its called time management for a reason... you manage the times and downs. You don't have to run a play in 8 seconds you can run a play in 20. They run these drills all the time there are 3 minute offense just like they do when they run a 2 minute offense.

I see other teams deploy this all the time.

You get close you slow down your roll a little bit. Then it comes down to taking the shots at the end zone and using the time outs accordingly.

I know you guys aren't that dumb. C'mon.

Agreed, and likely by the same people.

I don't believe the Saints were worried about the time on clock, especially since they had 3 timeouts left.

There is a ton of difference in needing a FG to tie or win and needing a TD.

I guarantee you there wasn't a Saints player, coach or fan that thought that after the Saints scored the go ahead TD that the defense wasn't going to stop the failclowns.

Re: Clock management at end of regualtion

I think Sean was well aware of his options on the last drive and well aware of the clock. Part of the success of the offense is quickly coming out of the huddle into formation and snapping the ball before the defense can adjust or swap personnel. I think Sean's focus was scoring at any opportunity and then see if the defense could stop Atl from going 55 yds to be in position to kick a game winner. I think he fully expected the defense to come up big when it counted and force Ryan to make a mistake. Our defense gave up huge chunks of real estate and Ryan was on fire and our secondary got shredded.
Furthermore, I think Sean should expect his defense to rise to such occasions. Frankly, the offense did their part on the last drive to put us ahead, the defense should have gotten the stop.

Re: Clock management at end of regualtion

The clock was not an issue in regards to the Saints scoring. The issue was not managing the clock more wisely which allowed the Falcons enough time to tie the game. Payton has never been good at it and has always wasted alot of timeouts and challenges.

By that logic, the pickles on my burger caused the lady parked next to me to hit my truck with her door.

A lot went on between our score and their victory. Two possessions by Atlanta, a possession by the Saints, a fumble.

Everyone remember the clock hitting 00:00 and the game tied? Difficult to convince a rational person that clock management caused a loss in a game that was tied at the end of regulation. One could however quite easily come to the conclusion that defense allowed them to catch up, and a fumble in OT put them in position to win with e FG...

Clock management however isn't a root cause.

Somehow a football team can score too fast but in highschool with a date in the back seat there was no such thing.

You get it when you can get it, cause if you miss it, you cant get it back.
