We should have seen this coming

Rob Ryan is known for his great first years with teams. First the Browns then Cowboys and now us. Rob Ryan is known for coming in to ****ty teams and turning them around the first year which is then followed by awful performances every year thereafter.

We should have seen this coming. Rob Ryan's first year was a fluke and at best we'll have the 20th ranked defense. Right now I would be happy with anything better than 32nd...

Trying not to start the fire Rob Ryan train. I am just bringing up his history.

As a matter of fact...
This is from the poll someone posted a few weeks back.

I hate to be a downer, but if our corners don't tighten up, at least from what I've seen, it's gone one big play after another for the other team all season long.
I'm thinking at best 10-6 for the season. Someone please set me straight and set my mind at ease.

Not getting this at all.

In Cleveland his 1st year they ranked 31st. In his 2nd season they ranked 22nd. That's a 9 game improvement

In Dallas they only dropped 5 spots in his 2nd season after being devastated by injuries to his key defensive personnel.

In Oakland they went from 30th to 27th in his 2nd season. And went to 3rd in his 3rd season

Not buying that theory at all.

Atlanta has a worse ranked defense (yards allowed), I know that for a fact.

For some here, yes. Payton not performing up to their expectations so it's freak out mode... 14 games left. 1 division game played. First home game this week.

I'd be more concerned about 0-2 if we didn't have the ability.

Expectations have become unreasonable.

Re: We should have seen this coming

I doubt Ryan is the issue. Let us think for a moment, lots of high draft picks devoted to defense, a ton of free agent money spent, and some excellent coaches. Gary Gibbs, Gregg Williams, Steve Spagnuolo, and now Rob Ryan. Since 2006 that is 4 defensive coordinators, overall success very minimal, despite all the work, money, and draft picks devoted to the defense.

It is very puzzling. We know Sean Payton can coach, we know Mickey Loomis can build a team, so what gives? With all the talent the Saints have acquired since 2006, why only 1 Super Bowl and besides the Super Bowl season only one other trip to the NFC Championship game? We all know the answer is the defense has basically not held up, the question is why???
