Good Start For Corey White

2 Attachment(s)
METAIRIE, La. – Corey White’s return to the starting lineup was a good start for the New Orleans Saints secondary.

The third-year cornerback didn’t allow a single pass completion against the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday as the Saints held Minnesota to a net total of 188 passing yards in the Saints’ 20-9 victory. White had good coverage down the field the one time Minnesota took a shot deep against him.

He just needs to learn how to catch a ball.

Like I said, we finished last season with the number 2 pass defense in the league, why change that if it worked so well, especially after its been apparent for many years that P-rob is nothing more than a liability in coverage.

The one good thing that comes out of Robinson's struggles is that maybe now all the Corey White bashers will be forced to come to the realization that he is actually a pretty solid player. He's mentally and physically tough and brings a safety mentality to the corner spot.

I think the coaches had to find out what Robinson was capable of in this defense and that's not always easy to do in preseason. But I think they also knew that if Robinson couldn't cut it they had a pretty solid fallback option. We already knew what White was capable of because he did it last year.

I still like him playing inside the most but admire his toughness on the outside, one of my favorite players.

Real head scratcher how we beat up Corey White, a fifth round pick, who plays hard and allows occasional completions (even knowing how much the league passes in contemporary times and pass defense is league rule restricted) and yet we keep trying to polish terds picked in the first and second rounds...

Who's we?

Several us defended him against ridiculous over the top criticism all off-season long.

Meh. Let's see what he's does against a real offense.

Love his size and passion for the game; solid tackler and contributes to the run defense. I'll admit I've cussed him out before, but I have cussed everybody that has ever worn or has coached the Black & Gold at one time or another over the years. I'm equal opportunity.

And I think he still has upside. Delusional, maybe, but there's something about him I really like and that he hasn't reached his potential yet. He has that opportunity now.

gotta learn to read the WR and make that quick adjustment and find the ball in flight. same old thing for him. more time outside the better he should get at it. it is an art

Not delusional. I feel the same way. I think he could be better than Keenan Lewis. I know people will say that's crazy, but when you look at their career paths, they're very similar. But Corey is a better athlete than Keenan and has a good mean streak too. 2-3 years from now, maybe even later this year, we may go back and look at this point in the season and say that's when Corey White became a big-time player.

But I have been saying this kind of stuff about him for months. So I'm probably a little biased. I just feel like he's on the verge of being a star.

I had been holding White accountable for the K. Thompkins TD reception against the Pats last year -- but I went back and looked and it was actually Jabari Greer. Hmmm.....

It was really on Bush, who was supposed to be Greer's help over the top. But Brady looked him off and he went the wrong way for a split second, then couldn't get back to the corner in time to help.

All I remember was Junior getting mugged on the final play.
Looked pretty obvious on my tv screen.

Has he ever picked off Drew in practice?

Boom...nailed it. Wouldn't have mattered if the secondary was out-of-place with a 10 yard holding penalty. It is what is it, though.

Actually watch that clip again. watch the safety help over the top just stand there for what seems like for ever. our safety play in that game was the worse i have seen in years

Moved Harper & Jenkins. Brought in Byrd and promoted KVac to starting SS.

Problem solved?

Not really... Greer even admitted he got caught looking in the back field, earlier in the game he almost had a pick on the same type of play but Brady caught him and gave him the double move. It was on the NFL replay interview.

Sure, but that doesn't really have anything to do with the safety being out of position as well. Long pass to the end zone like that, it's Bush's job to be there. In fact that's literally the ONLY thing he's responsible for in that situation.

If White can put Dez on Corey Island -- he will get absolution from me for all past sins. Of course, Lewis will probably get him all game.

So Corey White needs to shut down one of the NFL receivers to get your respect?

No way White is gonna shut down Dez. Dez is probably one of the top 5 WR's in the game today.

And the way Ryan has his CB's playing 10 yards off, Dez may have a huge day... and still lose.

i am not solid just yet to be honest. the secondary needs to play as a whole unit and with Robs new twists it is totally dysfunctional.

last year the CB were in press almost always. now with the cushion so big they can save me a spot at the hot dog stand while I pee. It is hard to tell.

I like Kenny but he is not a pure new age SS - just yet. his skill set seems to best serve him all over the place. keep the defenses guessing were he lines up. perfect example is how he man handled steve smith last year. next game he was line upped differently.

Byrd has all the tools but he has to adjust to the QBs in the NFC south verse the AFC East. he should fest on Tampa. :p

This group has not played together and the players are not settled in position coupled with the new twists Rob added God only knows what we got. But doing it this year only held the group back from gelling.

lets see what this reduced Rob defense results in. I think he is over thinking the game myself. but hey opinions are like ..:censored:.

Re: Good Start For Corey White

minimize Dez's impact. keep him pinned to the side lines and in front of you. that's all you can hope to do against any player that is top talent in the NFL. Do not give that huge play that can emotionally change the flow of a game.
