This date in New Orleans Saints history: Saints beat Buffalo in Texas; Drew Brees wins NFC Offensive Player of the Month

1977--Saints' first season win comes at Chicago, 42-24, plus a club first with two defensive touchdowns - tackle Bob Pollard on a 52-yard fumble recovery (forced by tackle Elex Price) and linebacker Jim Merlo on a 57-yard pick-six. Archie Manning is named NFL player of the week after he ran for three touchdowns and threw for a fourth score.

1983--Saints defeat Miami, 17-7, to go 3-2. Saints defensive end Reggie Lewis has a 27-yard pick-six, cornerback Johnnie Poe has an interception and running back Wayne Wilson runs for 160 yards on a then-team record 34 carries.

1987--Striking Saints players calling replacement players "bogus imitators" file suit in federal court with attorney John Rawls requesting a restraining order to prevent the nickname "Saints" from being used during the strike. The hearing was set for October 30 but eventually was dropped when the strike ended beforehand.

1994--Saints win in the Superdome, 27-22 over the New York Giants, in 1967 throwback uniforms. Linebacker James Williams returns an interception 33 yards for a touchdown and racks up 10 tackles to earn NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

2000--Linebacker Charlie Clemons is put on injured reserve with an Achilles tendon injury suffered in training camp.

2005--Saints win their second game of the year, 19-7 over the Bills, in a relocated home game in San Antonio. Deuce McAllister runs for 130 yards, receiver Donte Stallworth has 129 yards, John Carney makes four field goals and defensive end Darren Howard has two of the Saints' four sacks. They hold the Bills to 208 total yards.

2008--Drew Brees is named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for September.

2011--Saints win at Jacksonville, 23-10. The Saints offense has 503 total yards and doubles the Jaguars' total first downs 30-15.
