It hasn't been the greatest week for New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

Last Sunday, his unit was thrashed by the Dallas Cowboys on national television. On Thursday he learned that veteran safety Jairus Byrd, the team's biggest offseason acquisition, suffered a season-ending knee injury.

But Ryan said the Saints are "close to getting it fixed." Away from football, he takes solace in family, and the biggest development in the Ryan household this week was the addition of a new pet.

Of course I don't hate him. Met him briefly at Greenbrier and he was a great guy. I just wish his players cared more for him and gave better effort.

I don't know anyone that hates the guy. He might be the most likable coach I can ever remember.

I have faith that he'll adjust and get things going right. I expect an effort boost after losing Byrd. I think we'll be flying all over the field wreaking havoc and crushing skulls.

This statement probably best encapsulates the situation for Ryan; New Orleans Fans love the guy, but he can't seem to get it that overpriced, aging veterans are not the personnel answer for today's defenses; young, fast, hungry draft picks and rookie free agents are how you build defenses...

I wasn't crazy about the his signing, but I don't think they are many Saints fans that don't want to see this defense get turned around more AND with him at the helm of the defense...

Blitz often and then some, rotate players. Start getting the defense fired up about making plays. This is not happening. We are losing largely because of a lackluster approach. He has better players than GW. Make it work. The talent is there.
