Ken Trahan - SportsNola.com - It was all there for taking for the New Orleans Saints.

Carolina got crushed by Green Bay, Atlanta was blasted by Baltimore, and you had a 13-point lead (23-10) with 4:16 to play in the game with Detroit playing a third-and-14 from its own 27-yard line. Then, the roof caved in. The Saints earned it. Just as they earned a 13-point lead, they earned a bitter defeat, one they may not recover from, though their division is so bad, who knows?

The good news is that there are many home games to come now. The bad news is that they will be against some good opponents.

This was a chippy game, a game with an attitude. Both teams were pushing and shoving throughout and personal fouls were called on both sides. Frankly, it was good to see the Saints with a fighting demeanor.

Calvin Johnson was the difference maker. We just had no answer for him.

We showed a lot of improvements in our game today, but it really came down to a few things for me. Corey White made a very poor decision thinking that he was going to intercept the ball instead of just tackling before the 1st down marker, Drew had a poor interception while under pressure, and the pass interference calls/non calls. Overall I feel encouraged by the improvements are team made during the bye week; especially with them going into a difficult environment against a great D-Line and the #1 defense in the league. Are we in the post season already? Man that was a short regular season....Lol. We would be extremely lucky to see the post season this year. It's highly unlikely, however it's not impossible. Just look at the 2011 New York Giants. Though they pale in comparison to the 2014 Saints horrible 6 game start, the Giants were able to become the first team in NFL history to reach the superbowl with a negative point differential (minus-6, 394 points scored, 400 points allowed) with a 9-7 record.

The Saints schedule was a bit unfair this season. If you look at it compared to other teams, they had the most away games for any team in the league with 4 out of 6. The league knew they were a terrible road team yet gave them 4 road games up front setting them up for failure early in the season. The good news is that 4 of the next 5 are home games with which they have the capability to bounce back and become 7-4 assuming they can win 1 road game in Carolina AND defeat the Packers at home as well as a very impressive Baltimore Ravens team.

I for one am remaining optimistic. The rest of the NFC south looks terrible this season so it is highly likely that the Saints could at the last sneak into the post season as a number four, or a number six seed. Let's do our best to show them out support shall we? I'm certain we have all had our days where it just seemed like nothing would ever go right fit us, then all of the sudden opportunity comes knocking and !!BOOM!!, you're right back on top.

Here's to a better second half of the season!!

Geaux Saints!!! Who Dat!!!

I've got to that point now where its pointless getting frustrated over a loss

Our team is a joke this year, the season is over

Every win (if we win anymore games) will be our Superbowl

I've been frustrated for 7 weeks, I've now realised I can't be more disappointed in the team than I am now, so what's the point in getting angry, its football, we suck this year, it Is what it is

Re: Saints Miss Golden Opportunity

We keep pointing out what the Saints CAN do in the remainder of the year, but we fail to mention what the Saint CANNOT do:

Put a game away when you've got a lead.
Decisively defeat a team. (Cowboys at home last year was the last time)
Control the tempo of the game and keep control.
RUN THE BALL and keep running the ball.
Connect with a receiver who has a two-step lead, thirty yards downfield.
Keep a pocket from collapsing.
Get out of a pocket that keeps collapsing.
Allow Drew Brees, the 100-million-dollar man, to run the offense by what he sees lined up opposing him. Make him earn it.

And the list goes on and on...

Brees who made the only first down in the last two possessions by taking off and running for 13 yards because of what he saw opposing him. Turning Brees into a scrambling QB speaks volumes to just how ineffective our offensive scheme was at the end of the game.

We still have a great chance to get the playoffs by default in our terrible division, but we cannot afford get beaten in the Dome.
