The FS Conundrum

Since we currently don't have a single healthy free safety on the roster let's talk about our options.

I saw the other thread talking about Marcus Ball getting the start and that scares the heck out of me. He strikes me as purely a traditional strong safety that has been put in the old Roman Harper role.

I think Corey White got some reps at safety during training camp which seems fortuitous on our coaching staffs part. Problem is that we're already pretty weak at CB as is so in this scenario we'd see a whole lot more Dixon/P Rob and maybe even some Jean-Baptiste.

A lot of people want Pierre Warren back. That's not a bad idea. I don't think the coaching staff disliked him... We were just set at FS with Byrd and Bush.

Any free agents out there worth a look? I know Jordan Pugh was with us last season. Today's tryout Tuesday so we'll find out soon who might be under consideration. Let's hear your thoughts.

This has the potential to be disastrous. Basically we have two Roman Harper's on the roster. I think we may see White moved to FS. I hope Ryan has a few old dogs with some gas left in the tank looking for some part time work.

We worked out a bunch of safeties a couple of weeks ago. I'd imagine we'll see one signed today. Rambo perhaps?

I think Rambo was signed by the Bills a few days ago. Heck, I was even looking at the Jets practice squad to see if Rex had a guy he might recommend to his brother. It's looking grim. Might have to just bring back Jordan Pugh since he at least is familiar with Rob Ryan and figure out some kind of timeshare at the position.

Re: The FS Conundrum

From a few weeks back...

Bacarri Rambo, safety Brandon Taylor according to the National Football Post.

Rambo, a 2013 sixth round draft pick out of Georgia, started 13 games for the Washington Redskins as a rookie but was benched for poor tackling. He was back in the starting lineup in 2014 during Brandon Meriweather's two-game suspension.

He was waived in September after allowing a 76-yard touchdown in Week 1 and a 63-yard touchdown in Week 2. Rambo has played in 45 career games with 33 starts.

Taylor, a 2012 third round draft pick from LSU, spent two seasons with the San Diego Chargers, where he played in six games with four starts, all as a rookie. Taylor spent most of his rookie season on injured reserve and was inactive for all 16 regular season games last season.

He was waived in June.
Anyone familiar with LSU's Brandon Taylor? Option?

So far I've only heard that we've worked out three LB's: Moise Fokou, L.J. Fort and Jerry Franklin.

Decent player in college and was a legit tackler. Not a whole lot of pop and sizzle however he was consistent in his job responsibilities. The knee injury hampered his chances to make a roster however he is definitely worth a look.

Why we ever released Pierre Warren I'll never know

Guy was a beast in training camp and preseason

Well done Payton....

He sure was, my guess is we had Byrd, Bush and Sunseri who all play FS and only Vaccaro as a true SS so they decided to keep Ball simply because he's a pure SS.

Had we known we'd lose all 3 FS's to IR by week 10 I doubt we'd have cut him.

It's not too late... He's only on the Vikes practice squad. Now's our chance to correct that mistake and bring him back. If we don't take advantage of this second chance then I'll shake my head.
