Panthers release CB Cason, starting a rookie

Carolina Panthers waive starting cornerback Antoine Carson - ESPN

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers on Tuesday waived starting cornerback Antoine Cason.

The move came two days after Cason was benched during a 31-13 loss at Minnesota after giving up a 17-yard touchdown catch to Greg Jennings with 16 seconds left in the first half.

Cason likely will be replaced by rookie Bene Benwikere, who came in for the 2008 first-round pick out of Arizona for the second half against Minnesota.

How would you like to be a rookie with your 1st start on the road vs Brees?

Speaking of Cason, I'm assuming it's not a case of good player, bad place or we'd be talking to him. We certainly could use depth if nothing else.

The difference between Atl and Carolina is that Atlanta won't ever quit against us, whereas Carolina will roll over easily. If we start off well, this one could be over at half-time.

Antoine Cason we know him so if they bring him in for a look see i can understand

Now Jason Williams i would love to see get a look at. solid special team contributor. ignore the two blocked kicks bit IMO.

Underestimating the Panthers would be the first mistake. Most teams seem to get their *!#* together when they line up against us. Saints still have to play a solid game on both sides of the ball.

Very true.
We have lost must-win game after must-win game, but with the god-awful South, we are still in the driver's seat.

But...if we underestimate Carolina and lose Sunday, we have no business discussing the playoffs.
