New Orleans-area legislators will hear the governor's pitch today on how she would like to rework the state's financial arrangement with the Saints football team.
Gov. Kathleen Blanco's proposed new deal for the NFL team would reduce the Saints' reliance on fixed guarantees from the state by creating a tax-fueled revenue stream.

Blanco needs the lawmakers' support for the plan to succeed because the revenue largely would come from the New Orleans area.

The top ideas for generating revenue are increasing the New Orleans-area hotel/motel tax and removing the tax exemption on Superdome tickets, said Tim Coulon, chairman of the board of the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District.

Some level of annual payments by the state to the Saints would continue, Coulon said.
