Saints over Bears, what did you like the most?

I thought there were several things that I really liked.

Nick Toon, after the early fumble he bounced back. You can see the confidence building. Good to know we went back to him after the early blunder.

Pierre Warren, another game, more experience, more confidence. This kid looks like he can play in this league.

Akiem Hicks, Now that’s the Hicks we thought we’d see all year.

David Hawthorne, looked faster and more intense than I’ve ever seen.

Josh Hill, more confidence building for him. Two TD’s and it looks like he’s not just a 3rd/4th option anymore.

Terrance Frederick and Jamarca Sanford, put the starters on notice. “Tighten up, we’re right on your tail and we want your job”.

Lewis had some really nice PDs.

What I liked was running more of the base 3-4 defense with Haralson and Humber at OLB. We were able to use Galette in his best role: situational pass rusher when we went to the four man fronts.

Not impressed  yet. Hard to tell since the Bears suck. It's foolish to think  we turned any type of corner. It's a joke :dunce: if we make the playoffs, but if we win the  Superbowl... I will shut up and be excited. ;)

Re: Saints over Bears, what did you like the most?

Colston, who played like a competent NFL receiver for the first time in a long while. No drops, fumbles or other major screw ups.

Middle of the O-line played very well.

defensively I liked the play of Frederick and Vacarro a lot in the secondary. Vacarro is much better back in his old role as hybrid corner/safety. John Jenkins looked pretty good too. Everyone else has been mentioned already I am sure.

Re: Saints over Bears, what did you like the most?

I liked Bears O-line and Cutler's ability to recognize the blitz.
I may be crazy but this game can hurt us vs Atlanta. I'm not worried about Keenan Lewis (he said something about bears that I liked) but rest of the team... Don't get overconfident. CHI team is pure garbage. ATL is playing better then most of the people think.

we beat the team we should have beat and did it right. i am not taking anything away from this game except the bears are done for the season and really do not look like a team. watch the off season waiver wire.

falcons will not go down easy as we all know.

ask me after that one

Re: Saints over Bears, what did you like the most?

Whatever Payton did or said to motivate them during the week, he did the right thing. There was none of the lethargy or disinterest or spoiled attitude that we have seen all year. They looked like the normal Sean Payton Saints that we are used to seeing. They attacked and attacked, and played pedal to the metal football.

Only once early on, did I remember seeing an incomplete pass, there was contact and the Saints receiver (can't remember who it was) looked around at the refs like he desperately wanted them to throw a flag -- the play was over and done, and his body language was being a big whiny baby about it. That only happened once that I saw. Which is something they do ALL THE TIME when they are losing. In the bad games they always get that body language of being spoiled babies or prima donnas, begging the refs for help, and there wasn't hardly any of that whiny attitude on display last night. They looked like how a football team is supposed to act.

Pressure. When we can get pressure, especially right up the middle, everything else will fall in place. It was great to see that last night.

Re: Saints over Bears, what did you like the most?

Putting the starters on notice isn't enough ... They need to be permanently sidelined if they cannot compete.

Literally a bunch of guys off of the practice squad cover far better than our beloved starters. No time to learn the system no time to mesh nothing , just follow your assignment and make plays ....

This speaks volumes on our starters inability to perform adequately when guys off of the street come in and Make it look so easy.

The defense looked really good if they play like this Sunday they will win. Pierre Warren keeps impressing me. My name for him is Sharper Jr.

Pretty much agree with all the points

I was glad SP didn't bench toon after the fumble, he came back and made some nice catches, its all experience for him and I hope he can be a starter next year

Hicks pushing their OL into cutler and then dragging him down with one hand was priceless

No coverage breakdowns, the secondary played a fundamentally sound game

Pierre warren made the plays when they were there - wished he could have run one all the way back.

Nice diving interception by P-rob.

PT running the screen and it taking 6 bears players to tackle him.

Only part I disagree with. Grubbs and Goodwin were the weakest part of our offense. They had many plays where they got blown up ruining the play. Everyone else on both sides of the ball were solid. I had these 2 picked out as our dunce cap boys of the evening.

Re: Saints over Bears, what did you like the most?

We beat a very bad team. Cutler is the antithesis of a leader. No one on that side of the field looked at all like they wanted to be there.

As dominating as we were in the first half, it was 7-0 with 30 seconds left.
I'm glad we won, but we still have work to do.

Sounds like you're talking about Graham. Always looking for a flag.

Re: Saints over Bears, what did you like the most?

I love anytime we can get a win but this won't be only about what I like.

What I liked:

-Good pressure from the dline all game
-Fundamentally sound coverage for most of the game
-Commitment to run the ball even though it wasn't working that well
-Quick SMART decisions from brees throughout the game
-Very good route running and separation by our receivers

What I didn't like:

-Poor play by the kicking team (penalty and missed field goal)
-Poor interior line play by our guards and center. They were let off the hook a lot by the screen game and quick throws by drew.
-Poor edge control by our linebackers and dlineman (atlanta will look to attack this with receiver screens all game.)
-Stale unimaginative run plays. Our interior line is not very good so we need to disguise our runs a little better because they got no push against the bears

I would give our team B/B-.

ScottF,
Agreed. I hear you loud and clear but the Bears are still a NFL professional franchise, capable of beating any team in the league. A Jeffries, Matt Forte, Martellus Bennett etc aren't exactly Oakland Raider material. We started off sloppy however last night was a step in the right direction. The Saints are still a dangerous ball club when all 8 cylinders are clicking.

Trust and believe brother :bandg:

Senio Kelemete subbed in for Ben Grubbs at certain times... I don't know if Grubbs was banged up or if Payton wanted a look at Kelemete for future reference.

I mean compared to most of the year, they did a much better job. Brees was able to step into his throws for the most part. I have been dogging Goodwin all year, he stinks. Grubbs isn't terrible, but he's not worth his big contract either.

Re: Saints over Bears, what did you like the most?

I absolutely have a man-crush on having the "Hicks/Jenkins Rotation" over Center. That showed up in the run defense & the pass rush. Made the entire defense better; it all starts in the middle. Jenkins actually led the team in tackles last night.

A very, very close second is Pierre Warren's play...grant it, is was against Cutler & an inexperienced WR corps. But this was on MNF at Soldier Field. This MAN showed up and balled. Them other Saints secondary players better start gathering up material for their resumes...Warren is a NFL Playmaker (see Baltimore game at the goal line for further info). You Do Not let playmakers walk, regardless of where they are drafted or where they come from. Like...this...man.

Re: Saints over Bears, what did you like the most?

I'm worried about a hangover too VP, but I think the players know Chicago is a weak team so I don't think they're beating their chests today.

We simply did what a contender is supposed to do. We beat a weak team by 3 scores at their house.

I thionk by now they all know thats all we really did. We played to our potential, nothing more.

If we can play to our potential we can beat any team not named Seattle. We'll need just a little extra to beat them.

Re: Saints over Bears, what did you like the most?

I thought the final score was pretty, and so are our shiny gold helmets.
Beyond that, it was a garbage win over a garbage team.

I laud guys on here like Danno & Dizzle, who offer more nuts & bolts analysis, than me, but I am disturbed by how poorly our offense played, vs. a team that is already on vacation. You dominate a team for a half of football, you should have more than 7 points.

But more disturbing was when we were up by 3 TD's, and suddenly could not make a first down, and Payton did not go line diving to run clock. He was still calling Payton plays. At this same point, the defensive backfield was gearing up to take a dive. The Saints, to me, appeared to be trying their damndest to go '92 Oilers, but the Bears simply refused to walk thru the open door, rolled over, and played dead for us. About 30 other teams would have pulled a Hail Mary type comeback win over us.

Yall know me, well many of you. I'm practically a walking production of Up With People, when it comes to my Saints. (google it, kids) But lets not fool ourselves. We suck goat nuts, and our offense is especially flacid in pressure situations. We're horrible both ways, and I wont be surprised if both the Falcons, AND Tampa thump us.
...in our supposed house.

Hawthorne was amazing! Pierre Warren...wow! I thought Toon and Stills played well. I wanna see more of Toon. He runs well with the ball and can break tackles. I still think we should run more. Have to admit I always dogged Stills but he may be coming around.

Pressure on the QB, Pressure on the QB, Pressure on the QB!!!!!!

No coincidence you pressure the QB you create turnovers.

Yep. We don't have a knockout punch.
We let teams hang around all game, and the good ones have come back and beat us.
The Bears self-destructed in front of our eyes, but even then, they still made it interesting at the end

Two things: O line and D line.

Both played to their abilities and the overall performance was a result.
