I thought the TE coach did well enough to stay. Hill was come along nicely.

I thought Ellard was highly regarded?
Maybe sick of the drops

Still same old issues on the lines and LBs though

Did you miss the part where Payton said more changes are coming?

Good I say. Other than Stills the receiver group has shown a real lack of focus and smarts on the field the last couple of years. Graham hasn't really become the polished TE that he could be.

More moves? I think Vitt sticks around for the long haul. He's too big a part of the organization and has much larger responsiblities than just being the LB coach. Bill Johnson is almost certainly gone and the DB coach is already gone.

I like Josh Hill a lot, but I wonder how much of his development has to do with Ben Watson and not the coaching. Graham is still a raw player after 5 years in the league. Considering the amount of money we've committed to him that's not a viable result.

I'll believe it more when Vitt gets his walking papers.

I agree with what you said about Hill, I also agree that Graham not being polished. I can't see why Vitt stays, to many better lb. coaches out there that can get much better results and Vitt is a joke at being the assistant head coach just look at results when Payton was suspended.

Re: Saints fire WR coach Henry Ellard and TE coach Terry Malone

From reading between the lines over the years it seems like Vitt is a fairly important part of the structure as SP's right hand man or whatever you call it. I don't think he will be fired for that reason. But maybe they promote him upward to full-time asst. coach and hire somebody else just to focus on the LBs. FWIW, I don't think our LBs are coached poorly, they just lack footspeed.

Well..looks like we are gonna see some new cogs. Fine with me. Everyone is on the chopping block.

Great. All three of those positions are annually the most disappointing and underachieving since 2009-2010, esp. since Curtis Johnson left. Makes sense.

I'll be elated once Vitt, McMahon, Johnson and talent scouts are shown the door. There are plenty of young, vibrant DE coaches/assistants out there wanting to make a difference (specifically on defense) in N O.

Personnel decision making needs a hard look as well...

Still don't get why Joe Vitt Sr, Greg McMahon, Bret Ingalls, Bill Johnson, Frank Smith, Bryan Young have responsibilities with the team now...

DLine and the LB's do need better coaching as well as talent. Vitt ain't gonna be fired though. Perhaps moved but he wont be fired.

Nothing against any of these men personally, but their areas are not getting it done and have regressed.

I think anyone associated with ST needs to go. Our ST have been horrible for years now.

Anybody know how Drew's coaching is setup? Is he coachable (meaning open to critiquing his decision making)? Whoever this is needs to be replaced.

Part of the problem has probably been that he had a new QB coach this past year. Joe Lombardi was his coach but he left to be the OC of the Lions. I don't know off the top of my head who the new QB coach is but maybe the change took some getting used to.

I don't think blowing the whole thing up is going to work either. I think Vitt is solid and like JV said, he does a lot more for the team than coach LBs. Just like the defense, keep what can grow, cut the rest.

Read Drews book, apparently it details the numerous things he does that have nothing to do with coaching LBs.

More concerned about the hiring. Hiring of people that demand professional performance from professional athletes. What happened this season is not acceptable on this level. Almost dead last in every category.

On Defense.

Top 5 in almost every Offensive category, although it certainly doesn't feel like it does it.

True, but how much of the offense was generated in garbage time. 4 games I know of for sure. That is the deceptive story the numbers can't tell you. The Bucs game was against some backups. The offensive numbers, if really broken down would not be something to hang a hat on.

Disagree completely. We had very few garbage time games. Most of our losses were in the final minutes.

Garbage time to me means the game is over and a team puts up yards/points with the end game already decided - either in a winning or losing situation.

To me we had a good bit of that type of offense this year - in a losing effort. I could be mistaken and would have to have the courage to go read the drive summaries of each game. At least for now I can't stomach it.

I did, and "garbage yards" were a tiny fraction of our totals. Its totally insignificant.

In fact, if you subtracted every single yard we gained in the 4th quarter versus Dallas, Cincy, Baltimore, Carolina #2 AND Atlanta #2 we'd still finish in the top10.

Think about that, EVERY single 4th quarter yard gained in these five supposed garbage games and we'd still be top 10.

Cool...I take your word for it. Our Offense is top ranked even with a crappy OL and a top 5 turn over rate. Someone said earlier we didn't play complimentary ball...may have been you...and that I agree with. We didn't help each other out through out the year. We never seemed to play with a lead except a few occasions, I recall our Offense starting out slow (even when we didn't we were snake bit and would turn if over in the redzone). I guess my overall issue with the Offense is the damn turnovers, OL and drops. On Defense nothing worked.
