From the things I\'ve heard and read, it wasn\'t Jim that asked for the extension, but then I don\'t believe everything I read either. Thruth is, none of us will ever know what was said in that meeting in Fla, but I swear I would have payed good money to have been a fly on the wall for it!

I wish I could put in mediocre performance after mediocre perfomrance on my job and get paid for it. I have to work my butt off to keep my job. What a screwball organization.

Ya know I usually defend my Saints when people start piling on with over the top criticism, but you know what...
this year, they deserve it. Hammer away.

The really sad part is that this isn\'t even over the top. It\'s frank and straight forward, but it doesn\'t say anything untrue or speculative, as far as I can see. Loomis and Benson don\'t know anything about football if they\'re willing to give Haslett an extension after this season. They do have their hands out to the state, partly b/c their mediocre team is mismanaged. And Jim Haslett should be smiling.... maybe this is why AB smiles so much.

This author, Glen Guilbeau, writes out of Lafayette and covers the Saints and LSU. He hates the Saints and every article is negative. He didn\'t even give the Saints any props for their 4 game winning streak.

What I\'m saying is the whole spin on that article is that Haz asked for or demanded a 2 year extension, and from what I\'ve heard nothing could be further from the truth. It was offered -- and Jim accepted per some changes.

Now, that\'s just what I\'ve heard and read. This article, in my opinion, and a PRIME example of how BS gets started.

Quote:

Other cars would have quit this season. Mora did. Not Haslett. He\'s not quitting. He knows his boss doesn\'t know anything about football. Therefore he can be bamboozled into thinking that Haslett\'s running well.
So, do we really think Jim is sitting in his office with a sly grin on his face thinkin\' , \"boy, Benson doesn\'t know a damn thing about football so I\'ll just bamboozle him out of a few more of his dollars\". I don\'t think that\'s what Jim is thinking.

For what i\'ts worth, Mora was/is a quitter. I don\'t see that as perferable to someone who\'s trying to win in spite of all the drama.

This article is why players, coaches, owners, and people like me dislike the media in general. It\'s a bunch of crap written like it\'s the definitive truth.

If you mae the decision to stick with Haslett and at the same time feel major changes are needed then a contract extension for Haslett was, weird as it may seem, a necessity. Let\'s assume the \"changes\" in store are coordinators. How willing do you think top NFL coordinators are going to be to take a job with the Saints if Haslett\'s a \"short timer\". To bring in top coordinators they have to beleive in Haslett as a head coach and feel there is some stability.

The team didn\'t perform Gator, but I\'m not convinced Haz is the guy that should get canned for it, and I don\'t have any appreciation for an article that CLEARLY mis-represents facts -- or, as is the case with this article, simply makes things up with no factual base whatsoever. As I\'ve said a hundred times before, if it\'s opinion then write it as such, but this article is way off the mark in the factual department, and I challenge any of you to find ANY thing that points to Jim DEMANDING a contract extension.

saintsfan, isn\'t at least possible that given the fact that Haslett is quoted as saying he wanted no changes to his staff, a condition of changing his staff may have been a demand for an extension? The previous extension is the reason he has a job now, they didn\'t wanna pay out his contract after firing him. So they say, \"Venturi, has to go.\" Haslett says, \"no way, unless you guarantee my job beyond this year,\" and presto, brand new extension for a coach who hasn\'t made the playoffs in the last 4 years. Not likely, but possible. I don\'t know how else to explain it.

Whodi, you are right. \"Not Likely\".

Whodi. it seems I\'ve heard that before. Might have some value to it. If it gets rid of Venturi, I\'m for it.

I am all for keeping Has around but Ventrui and front office changes need to happen and I am ok. O-coordinator needs to change to, I want a coach who will keep the foot on the throat of an opponet, like the eagles and colts do.

It takes a lot for a team to get the Super Bowl we also need the football gods to shine on us to. 4 game win streak... I recall the years where getting 4 wins in a season was a dream.

I think people who criticize the Saints get criticized on this board as often and as harshly as they supposedly judge the Saints.

For starters, this post doesn\'t make any comment about where the article ran. If it ran on the cover of the sports page, then maybe it\'s a problem. If it ran as an editorial - essentially an OPINION PIECE - then there\'s nothing wrong with it.

Further, this guy isn\'t making things up. He quoted his source - the Times Picayune.

Quote:

Yet, Haslett will likely get this two-year extension that he wants so as \"to end the speculation about his job security,\" says the New Orleans Times Picayune.
Here\'s that story by Jeff Duncan
http://www.nola.com/saints/t-p/index...9169186770.xml

Something ain\'t stirring the Koolaid here. I mean, these are the quotes that ran in that article:

\"Obviously, there\'s been a lot of speculation about the coach the whole year, and we wanted to get that behind us as quick as possible,\" Loomis said. \"We\'re strongly behind Jim. He\'s our coach. We strongly believe that he is going to lead this team to a championship, and I want to do everything I can to support him in that.\"

\"There have also been national reports about a rift between Jim and I, and we wanted to get that put to rest, too,\" Loomis said. \"Hopefully, this gets that season behind us so we can move forward and get our team in the playoffs, where we out to be right now.\"

\"Mr. Benson has been in Jim\'s corner all along,\" Loomis said. \"He never ever came out and made any references to not having Jim here. This was just an affirmation that Jim\'s our head coach and we\'re in his corner 100 percent.\"

That is CLEAR backpeddling, double talk, and manipulation by Loomis. Yeah, he didn\'t flat out say Haslett was a problem - he said things needed to change and strongly implied that Haslett was the problem. Sound a whole lot like Clinton mincing the definition of \"sexual relations.\" Now Benson was always behind the coach of the \"high schoolers\"???? Gimme a break.

This guy might not be telling it straight, but neither are Benson and Loomis.

I guess I just don\'t see the difference. BS is BS is BS as far as I\'m concerned.
