I've been hearing a stat on sports talk that something like 78% of NFL players are either bankrupt, divorced, and/or a few other things you wouldn't expect. Kinda' hard to imagine it's that high, but it happens I guess. :neutral:.

Bankrupt? Living that lifestyle then having to stop it when the contract money is gone - yes, I'd expect that to happen, surprise it isn't at a higher rate - guess the quarterbacks made so much and offensive linemen just buy a boat and lake and stay there...

Divorced? Let's see, meet girls at clubs who are attracted to superficial qualities of money, status, peak physical conditioning? Game days, training stops, so does the attraction?!? Was there a prenuptial when they married these totally hot babes?!?

Few other things you wouldn't expect?!? Well, let's take say, Aaron Hernandez...scouts heard rumors, Boston Globe reported failed drug tests in college - hell, Urban Meyer resigned with chest pains from Florida after three seasons with Hernandez...hmm...yeah, can't imagine players with team security details cleaning up their messes continuing to push the envelope...

Symptom of the problem...

More and more players are coming out in their junior year and never complete their degree. The NFL needs to give these players an incentive to go back to school when they retire.

Totally disagree - it's not the NFL nor the Government nor anyone's need responsibility to get these guys to go back to school...

It is the individual's decision to better himself and the onus is on the individual to become an educated person...

Only through self-motivation will that player maximize the learning experience...

Bigger problem is many of these 'scholar-athletes' are not even doing their own coursework - some of that is even an institutional problem, but that is still the individual's responsibility...

Or you can hire someone to manage/invest your money if you make that much. I just wonder if some of these guys are getting good advice, letting friends/family manage their funds or just getting swindled by every one around them while they live the high life, :neutral:.

Like the saying goes - You can take the boy out of the trailer park but...

Give a man more of something than he or his family and friends have ever had before and that's what happens.

I swear I could start a lucrative business from protecting a handful of pro athletes.

Doesn't have to be the NFL, but if someone gives me a big huge pile of money, first thing I would do is, buy Mom a modest, simple house someplace safe and free from crime; second thing is, put the rest of it somewhere safe where I can't even touch most of it. Everybody in the NFL does the first one, almost NOBODY does the second one. And then even the house eventually gets taken away because of poor choices in the second part of the list.

Not all players make what they make either; there's some failed investments there...
