Jimmy Graham says current plan is no shoulder surgery

Before the Pro Bowl, Saints tight end Jimmy Graham said his participation in the annual all-star game will help determine whether he needs surgery on the shoulder he injured early in the regular season.

After the Pro Bowl, Graham told PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio that the current plan is to continue to rest and rehab the shoulder without surgery.

Graham said plenty more during his slot as the final guest in a week full of excellent conversations, from his aggressive approach to pick-up basketball to his love of flying to how the movie Top Gun sparked his passion for flying and provided the template for his first kiss.

The six-foot, seven-inch Graham also said he was first able to dunk a basketball when he was merely five feet, eight inches tall.

In all, Graham was loose, relaxed, funny — something that doesn’t come through very much while he’s bringing the same intensity to football that he does to basketball

Pro Bowl is the right game to test your shoulder. lol Game where players on defense are afraid to hit opponents.

I have a sneaking feeling that Graham's high paid doctors know a bit more about his need, or lack of, for surgery than you. Surgery is always a last resort when it comes to joints areas. Yes, sometimes it is the only resort, but all surgeries come with a risk.

I say, despite the risks from surgery, the current plan SHOULD BE rehab the shoulder with surgery and rest.

That is against the risk of continuing, as he has done, with an injury that made him pretyy well ineffective last season.

Having gone through a couple shoulder surgeries, I can tell you the last things doc's wanna do is surgery, not to mention, at least for me, I haven't seen exactly what the damage is? a lot of times, surgeries aren't the "fix all", and also a lot of times surgeons will tell you they won't know what they are gonna do until they get in their. Not everything is at appears on MRI's. I'm sure the doc's have a better idea of whats best more so than say any of us. If anything, he probably should have skipped the pro bowl, rested and began rehabbing/strengthening it.

Have you examined Graham yourself? What did his MRI's look like? How did you determine that it was an injury that could not heal sans surgery? Did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?
