Lofton Excited To Work With Allen, Ryan

I think Lofton meant more to the defense than his PFF rankings showed.

Eager to see how Allen impacts several factors this year:
- Roster cuts
- FA signings
- Draft picks
- Execution on the field

Saints' Curtis Lofton excited to work with Rob Ryan, Dennis Allen - ESPN

Quote:

"I think you use the analogy, ‘You can't have too many good players.’ And you use that for coaching,” Lofton said Thursday. “I think he's just going to make us better. And Sean [Payton], he’s one of those coaches that’s going to go out there and get the best and do whatever it takes to help this team improve. And bringing Dennis Allen on is definitely gonna help us improve."

Quote:

“If you look at, in ‘12, we had the history’s worst defense. And everyone was calling for, 'We need this player, we need to go out and get this guy, we need this, we need that.’ And you come back in '13 and have the fourth-ranked defense,” Lofton said. “So I don't know if there needs to be any [personnel] changes. I think what needs to be done is guys need to play better, coaches need to coach better, and we need to go out and execute. If we do that, then we'll like where we're at."

Things im sick of hearing

Saints had the worst defense in history in 2012

No they didnt, they gave up the most yards.
Now unless i stupid, yards do not win games. The Saints gave up 454 points, the Colts in 1981 gave up 533

2012 was an anomaly.

2013 set the expectation.

2014 was a disappointment.

2015 better be retribution.

But Lofton said he doesn’t feel like a personnel overhaul is necessary -- just a performance overhaul.

agree 80%, the secondary needs a major infusion of talent especially at CB.

We will see. Getting trampled by the run game and passing game looked pretty pathedic to me all year. There are quite a few pieces needed and 1 year at being a #4 rated D out of how many years of bad D's want cut it. Even if we had a mid-range D on a consistant level is way better than 4th to dead last. Far to much inconsistancy to compete with the big boys like N.E., Seattle, Dallas to get to the big game. I do hold the D more accountable than the O but the O is not without blame either, just not as much.

We definitely need a personnel overhaul especially at the #2 ILB,CB, OLB, DT, and maybe DE if hicks cant get his **** together.

Basically it wouldnt hurt to put some quality depth on this team via draft or FA

My priority would be ILB followed by NT, I do worry some about DE but for now Hicks and Jordan is a must improve to make the front line work I wouldn't mind seeing another DT in later rounds and a NT in the early rounds to shore that front up well. The OLB on running downs I think Ediboli might be able to handle with a good ILB at the top pick. I think a CB in FA would be the way to go there, a proven vet. The D needs help!!
