Mike Banks signs with New Orleans Saints

He'll report to training camp in March
January 13, 2005

These are exciting days for Ogden's Mike Banks.The NFL tight end signed with the New Orleans Saints last week, and in approximately three weeks, he and his wife Tanya are expecting their first child.
In late November, Banks had met with the Chicago Bears, but to sign with them could have meant playing football in Europe, something he didn't want to do because he is about to become a father.Also, several of the people who helped Mike get together with the Bears are no longer with the organization.

Concerning his future fatherhood, Mike tells he and Tanya know it is a boy and he'll be named Mike.

But back to football.
"I'm really excited about this opportunity," Mike said in a telephone interview from his Arizona home Thursday night. "I was amazed what they knew about me when I met with them, not only as a football player but as a person. They said they knew I was going to love Louisiana because it's a sportsman's paradise. They knew I loved to hunt and fish."

That\'s a darn good list. It reads like a starting lineup of league TE\'s. If we can\'t pick up a good one this offseason something\'s terribly wrong.
