If we miss the playoffs this year is Payton on the hot seat?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Agree with jnormand, I think back to all that have passed through our doors besides with Mora there has been very few competitive seasons. I do agree with the burnout issue a lot of Coach's don't like moss growing on ...

Agree with jnormand, I think back to all that have passed through our doors besides with Mora there has been very few competitive seasons. I do agree with the burnout issue a lot of Coach's don't like moss growing on their backs and move on. I do think if Brees leaves, SP won't be far behind. Can't imagine all the family power struggles and in-fighting are making it a fun place to work either.

Re: If we miss the playoffs this year is Payton on the hot seat?

I'd imagine that the question of whether Payton stays or not, probably hinges quite a bit on who eventually winds up winning the Benson family squabble. If it's Rita, I kinda don't see him staying around for a very long term future. She'll clash with him and fire him pretty quick. That's a hot seat that's totally separate from winning or losing.

Remember the stipulation in Payton's contract, about him being able to walk if Loomis was suspended, gets fired or leaves, the provision that got voided by the NFL? That wasn't in there just about Loomis and Payton being buddies, personally -- it was about preventing instability or hot-headed ownership from ruining the organization.

No I don't think so.
However, if the Saints repeat last years performance, it may be time to shop Brees while he would still benefit the team with a trade, but I hope not.

I think if we don't make the playoffs this year it is because Payton has lost his fire. I see a big difference in his demeanor since the year off. He didn't look as fiery as he used to. And last year he looked like things were just getting away from him. Not sure if he has the will to keep fighting to overcome the decline of this team. I am not sure if he really wants this anymore and this year will tell me whether that is true or not. If we continue to decline this year I can't see him wanting to be around.

Re: If we miss the playoffs this year is Payton on the hot seat?

If we go 9-7 or 10-6 and miss the playoffs I would say not likely. We go 8-8 or 7-9/6-10 and I say yes. The D won't be #4, but it should be middle of the pack which is good enough for our offense. If Vaccarro and PRob actually played like 1st round picks last season we would have been in the playoffs. Those early season losses were on the D at the end of the games...we win those and it would have been different. It's easy for young players to be pumped when the team is winning. It's also easy for them to give up when they are losing. That's why the veteran leadership needs to be there.

Absolutely not. Unless this team just implodes. His jobs is safe for 5-10 years.

Sean does learns from mistakes and watching what goes on around the NFL. I think he is smart enough to rebound and know when to cut bait when something isn't working to something that will.

I am more curious as to when he is going to pull the plug on Bree's that will tell me a lot about him.

Then why are the 3 stooges still around (Vitt, Johnson, McMahon) if Sean is so smart at cutting dead weight

He ended 40+ years of hell. He's my coach for a very
long time.
