Maybe Ireland has something to do with this also.

Lofton is a 2 down LB in 3 down clothing.

I defended his tackle total but that may have been more due to sheer number of snaps.

He missed A LOT of tackles last year....

We have the crappiest defense in the league. There isn't a player on this defense that should feel safe.

The money Benson spends on litigation is completely unrelated to the Saints payroll. Besides, the Saints payroll is capped by the league anyway....he can only spend so much, no matter what. That's called a "salary cap" -- ever heard the term? Are you aware the lawsuit is only about 60% of the Saints, which are in the trust. You don't know much about finance, if you think it is affecting Loomis and the actual team in any way. The 2015 money is set and capped and already accounted for, no matter what happens in court.

My o my... where to begin.

First, you do realize the 1.9 billion Benson is worth is derived from his total assets right? Are you dumb enough to think he has 1.9 billion liquidated to spend at his will?

Secondly, litigation cost an enormous amount of money, but you don't seem to understand they could have frozen portions of his assets that are in dispute.

Third and most importantly, the salary cap has nothing to do with what a team spends in a single year on payroll. Do you know what restructuring contracts entails? Apparently not, but let me break it down for you. In many restructures a player's compensation will be converted to a signing bonus. When this occurs the player is paid a lump sum up front while the CAP HIT is spread out over the life of the contract. This means by performing multiple restructures for multiple players you can far exceed the salary cap spending limit on a year by year basis. However, this can cost the owner of the team millions of dollars that might not be viable for a number of reasons. Perhaps you are one of these falcon fans that gets amazed by Loomis signing players and keeping players on the payroll year after year.

The litigation COULD (notice I said could, as in possibly) be a reason why no restructuring is taking place.

Edit:
Benson's assets relating to the team are frozen...

I like the move, too. It isn't just that Lofton can't cover. We are gashed by the run right where he's supposed to be...in the middle. Some MLB. Hope he goes.

My guess would be with Hawthorn not being released and Lofton getting shopped we may be finally converting to a 3-4 D.

Yeah so lets get rid of one the best D players we have. Makes perfect sense.

Also a lot was said about the lack of veteran leadership last year and now dumping PT and Lofton, two of the leaders we have left. Might as well dump Colston and Evans as long as we're gutting any semblance of Veteran presence.
