Miami's QB coach as our OC???!!!

Miami assistant drawing interest
Trestman reportedly has interviewed with three organizations.

Palm Beach Post Staff, Wire Reports

One Dolphins assistant is close to finding a new job, just as a new coach appears to be ready to come aboard.

A source close to Dolphins assistant head coach-quarterbacks coach Marc Trestman said he has interviewed for the offensive coordinator position with the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions, and at North Carolina State.

While Detroit appears to be a long shot, Trestman has had follow-up phone conversations with Saints coach Jim Haslett.

"Something could happen there," the source said. "Haslett and Marc really hit it off."

Yea that\'s the rumor that has been going around and I think it would be a good move. I\'ve followed Trestman for years and I think he is a great coach. He has the experience and should do great here.

Other rumors is that Norm Chow of USC will go to the Titans as their OC for 1.5 million a year and USC\'s qb coach will go to the Jaguars as their OC. Just imagine if we got Chow, but the money is a little to steep there.

Let me see, some position coach I\'ve never heard of, on a team where that position has struggled for years, is being mentioned as being hired and promoted by my Saints.

Why do I feel that this is without a doubt a 100% done deal?

Trestman is a 16-year veteran as an NFL assistant, including the last three with the Oakland Raiders, with whom he served as offensive coordinator the past two seasons. The Raiders marked the seventh different NFL stop for Trestman, who began his NFL coaching career as the running backs coach with Minnesota in 1985. After two years in that post with the Vikings, he became quarterbacks coach with Tampa Bay in 1987. The following year he was named quarterbacks coach with Cleveland before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 1989. He re-joined the Vikings as quarterbacks coach in 1990 and served two years (1990-91) in that in position before taking a three-year hiatus from the NFL to pursue a business career. He returned to the NFL in 1995 as offensive coordinator with San Francisco, where he served in that capacity through 1996. He tutored the quarterbacks with the Detroit Lions in 1997 before taking over the offensive with the Arizona Cardinals for the next three years.

While Trestman was Oakland\'s offensive coordinator in 2002, quarterback Rich Gannon was named the NFL\'s Most Valuable Player and earned his second trip to the Pro Bowl in as many years. In 1995, the 49ers\' offense led the NFL in scoring and passing, and ranked second in total offense under his tutelage. In his two years in San Francisco, four different players made a total of six Pro Bowl appearances. In addition, Bernie Kosar was selected to the AFC Pro Bowl squad in 1988 while Trestman was Cleveland\'s quarterbacks coach.

Trestman played quarterback at the University of Minnesota, where he earned his degree in Political Science. He went to training camp with the Vikings in both 1978 and 1979 as a defensive back. He began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at the University of Miami while attending law school. He was the Hurricanes\' quarterbacks coach from 1981-84 and was part of the staff that led the school to a national championship in 1983. He completed his Juris Doctorate and has been a Florida Bar member since 1982.

For some reason I don\'t get a good feeling about him when I hear his name. It\'s almost as if he were a laughing-stock OC at some point, but I don\'t know where or why I feel like that.

He\'s had a couple of really good years as an OC especially in San Fran in \'95 - which might show that he\'s capable of using talented players, unlike MM.

Actually his resume doesn\'t look that bad. Lots of experience, with several different teams, with several different types of QB\'s.

I wonder what he could do with Brooks? Or perhaps with someone else we decide to bring in?

1st Pease, then this guy... Maybe Haslet is trying to surround himself with wisened coaches that have lots of experience. I believe its the only way he will be successful here.

You\'re right. His resume does look good.
I think it\'ll probably be an upgrade over McCarthy, but until the defense is corrected it won\'t matter much in the win/loss column.
