For the New Orleans Saints, the 2015 NFL Draft Is the First of a New Era

Mickey Loomis became the Saints’ general manager after the 2002 draft. Since then, most of the Saints’ college scouting structure had been composed of the same people. Until now.

The 2014 offseason has been an exhibition of a new player acquisition strategy and has given us at least some reason to believe the team’s approach to the draft has changed. Since 2003, the Saints have had the fewest draft picks of any team in the NFL, thanks to their propensity to trade picks for veterans.

Between 2003 and 2014, the median NFL team had 95 draft picks. The Saints had just 72.

However, in 2015 the Saints have traded veterans for picks. They’ve done so after mercilessly firing Rick Reiprish, the man who had been in charge of the team’s college scouting and draft preparation for all but one Loomis draft. They replaced Reiprish with former Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland, who, if we put any stock in his new assistant general manager title, is in a position of greater power than Reiprish’s.

These changes have prompted a lot of questions and make the Saints’ 2015 draft the most exciting since 2006. The team needs to quickly improve its defense if it’s to have a chance to compete for another title while Drew Brees is still a football player, and it has chosen the 2015 draft as its primary means of doing so. To get idea of how likely it is the Saints will succeed, we need to know how often NFL teams actually succeed in the draft, how often the Saints themselves succeed by comparison, and how well Jeff Ireland, the new key piece of the process, has done when he’s been in a position of major influence.

Basically, if you want to know everything about the New Orleans Saints in the NFL draft, keep reading.

Trade up high or trade back seems the best option here.
Do you take the risk with anyone late in the first?.

Id be on the phone to Collins agent today. Just lay it out,we could take you but there will be a clause,if you had anything to do with this you get no money.

Peters seems the best to gamble on.

Damn id even go as far as to do ehat i ha e just done in my fantasy team and drafted away all but $13 rookie dollars to a player for his 2016 picks and grab a couple of youngsters.

Even that philli trade sounds better.

"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!
