On the excitment level I'll give it an 8 on a scale from 1 to 6.

I'm an optimist, sometimes annoyingly so, and I think this has the chance to be one of the best, most balanced Saints teams we have ever seen.

From last year we have some good pieces on DL that underperformed, LB corps was atrocious and the DBs shakey. We drafted 3 new LBs, signed one of the best press corners out there we get Byrd back from injury and added som depth to the DL late in the draft an UDFA.
I think we will see great improvement from this unit. I liked Lofton but i think this new cat will really be a cut above.

Graham has been a focal point on offence, too much so. The O has been quite predictable the last years. I think Hill will be able to pick up a lot, if not all, of the slack. Cooks had a great rookie season before his injury and will come back better. He is mature for his age and really smart. Hopefully Colston will be healty and able to produce. We have all said for quite some time that it is Brees who make WRs look good. Now its time for hoim to prove it.
Bama looked like the RB we was hoping he would be when we drafted him and I hope and believe that he will be even bette rthis year. Spiller well be a good addition and well make the offense instantly more explosive.

Saunders looked really good returning kicks and the new kid we got in the 7th round might make an impact there too.

This will be exciting to watch. Can't wait for camp to begin.

Our biggest problem on defense last year was not talent(Although there may be someone who could make that argument) it was communication. Lofton was unable to adjust the defense to counterattack the offensive set. I saw this in multiple games, especially on third down. Guys in the secondary were trying to figure out who to cover and the LBers were over playing the play fake.

Why am I mentioning this here? Because with this draft I think we looked past pure physical capabilities and drafted smart capable defenders. I looked at Clemson vs. UGA(Anthony v. Gurley) and on multiple occasions Anthony read the screen or the play action and got to the point of attack to disrupt the play. He did miss a few tackles on Gurley, but that is understandable with Gurley's skill set. If defenders are where they are suppose to be on 3rd and 13, it will be a great season.

I think he had back surgery this offseason. That's why teams didn't sign him. Solid player.

Didn't know that.
Again like James Jones may be too pricey with limited cap space available

Coming out of OU I thought he would become a game changer (especially with the basketball background). Injuries have somewhat crippled him thus far. When healthy, he is a solid contributor.

Unger, Browner and Spiller will undoubtedly be good additions to the roster, but others like Ellerbe and Spencer will be interesting to watch as well.

Ellerbe really looked great that one season with the Ravens, so there's potential there for a real impact sleeper - especially if they pair up well with Anthony.

Also, the Saints' big FA splash of last offseason - Byrd - went largely unnoticed due to his injury and subsequent going on the IR. It'll be very interesting to see what kind of an impact he can make this season with the reshuffled secondary around him and Dennie Allen on board.

As I see it, I think it is going to be an interesting season.

No one wants to call it what it is but it is a rebuilding offseason. They drafted players that will be the core/back bone of the team for years to come.

I guess it depends on your definition of rebuild. When I hear rebuild I think of a team that plans to compete in a year or 2 instead of right away. Way too many glaring holes to be a contender.

I think we're re-tooling the roster.

When I think of rebuilding I think dumping of veterans to sign as many young people as possible. Putting in a rookie or first year QB and drafting and signing players around that position.
I see what we are doing is just planning for the future. We have a good mix of young guys and vets. The young guys will come into their own, some quickly, some over a period of time while the vets will keep us playing at a high enough level to compete. The pieces are still in place to win now.
