It was McCarthy who wanted out!

Quote:

"It was just my time to go," McCarthy said Thursday, one day after accepting an offer from new San Francisco coach Mike Nolan to be the offensive coordinator with the 49ers. "I had my time here -- five good years. This decision was based on personal growth, both professionally and financially."

McCarthy simply wanted to tackle a new challenge, and the 41-year-old West Coast offense guru needed a life change. That's why he chose last February to decline a two-year contract extension from Saints coach Jim Haslett, and that's why he asked Haslett and General Manager Mickey Loomis for permission to interview with other teams -- even though he was still under contract until Feb. 15.

You were right about McCarthy wanting out. I\'ll cede that point to you. I thought it was the Org that forced him out. My bad. Good article Billy.

Here\'s why I thought he was forced out. They kept Haslett, the defense somewhat improved by the end of the season and the offense struggled every single game. To keep Haslet I thought they had to chop off heads around him. I figured it would be McCarthy since the Vinturi was the absolute obvious choice to be fired.

But I\'m a little intrigued that McCarty wanted out. Why would you leave if you thought you were close to a Superbowl run on a team where you built the offense from the ground up over 5yrs. Is it me, or does it sound like McCarthy is jumping ship. If he is jumping ship, and it seems like he is, it might be because he thinks Haslett won\'t last another season. The same thing is going on right now in Green Bay. Assistants are bailing because they think Sherman won\'t be around the following year. The difference there is Sherman\'s contract expires next year. Here Haslett may have 2 more years .

Does anyone think McCarthy jumped ship because of lack of job security with Haslett?

PS: Billy, Haslett said in another article McCarthy made the offense too complicated which resulted in all the delay of game penalities. Here\'s the test. Let\'s keep track of the delay of game penalties with the 49ers this year. If it rises way beyond the previous years and the Saints penalites drop, then we\'ll agree his playcalling was too complicated.

BUT, if they don\'t rise in San Fran and the Saints still have around the same number of delay penalites........we\'ll have to put some blame on Brooks.

Deal?

Gator --

You\'re starting to think like me now...lol

I do wonder why McCarthy wanted out. If he felt like the Saints could contend next year, then it makes no sense why he wanted out.

Maybe he thought the offense had too many problems and it would be more of the same?

It\'s never a good sign when your offensive coordinator quits. It doesn\'t make me feel good!!!

And it also makes me more sceptical about the whole Saints organization. Haslett included.

And then maybe he thought Brooks can\'t get it done. Who knows?

I just really have my doubts about this team and its chances of winning next year.

The upcoming free-agency period is going to tell me a lot about their desire to win.

If we go the cheap route again in FA, then I don\'t like our chances. No matter what else happens.

Then again, I am a sunshine boy...LMAO.

I\'ll be preaching super bowl before the season starts, I\'m sure...LMAO!!

I don\'t know the number, but I did read that SF offered him a LOT more money. Might that have something to do with it too fellas?

What\'s up saintfan?

You\'ve left me here alone to fend for myself.

I\'ve stood my ground against the \"fire \'em all\" crowd.. ;)

But, yes, I think money played a role in McCarthy\'s decision to go to San Fran.

But, I\'m really wondering if there wasn\'t more to it than that?

even more implicating is that i read in some article is that he declined a contract extension when haslett upped. i just hope he loves leon enough to try and get him out west. LOL shades of bobby hebert, i am ready for a average offense (rattay at the helm anyone?) with a shutdown defense again.

Gator --

If we keep having to call timeouts because the play isn\'t getting called quickly enough, then I\'ll be inclined to agree that it has to be on Brooks.

It be hard for me to believe that we got another offensive coordinator who\'s offensive play calling was too complicated.

So, yes, we have a deal..

It\'s going to be interesting to see how the 49\'ers offense does.

Before we put it all on Mike wanting to leave, just remember, they may have agreed to handle it this way. There is a chance Haz wanted to go another direction, he and Mike talked it over and Mike entertained the other offers that came his way knowing that he was done here.
Oftentimes people are let go and things are put out in the public to make it harmonious. That\'s called PR. I don\'t think you can make too much of the company line on this one.
Also, there is money and people are motivated by that. SF hasn\'t exactly made the best decisions in recent years.

If their offense outdoes ours (with whoever the OC is) I hereby promise to do something unpleasant to myself. I may even drink a 6 pack of beer I don\'t like.

That\'s part of the quote from the orginal article..

It clearly states that McCarthy turned down a 2 year contract extention. That doesn\'t sound like Haz and company wanted McCarthy gone to me.

I think ALL evidence points to McCarthy wanting out.

And, like Gator, I have to wonder why?

I don\'t think it was all about money. Although I think money always plays a part.

Yeah...I\'m not saying that he didn\'t want out, just that Haz seems to like the guy and didn\'t want to sell him out publicly if they did force his hand.
He may not like Haz, may not like the city, may not like the state of the franchise, the defense, his weirdo QB that he brought here....

My point was just that we\'ll never know his motivation.
It will be very interesting to watch this offense in 05 I don\'t want our QB coach promoted, I want someone outside to come in and try to straighten things out. Only then will we know how much of the blame is on Mike and how much is on our guys not trying.
