Notes and observations from Thursday’s organized team activity
June 4, 2015 Nick Underhill 0 Comments

Notes and observations from Thursday’s organized team activity:

Attendance please: RB Mark Ingram (observing), CB Damian Swann (observing), S Jamarca Sanford (working out off to the side), DL Davis Tull (off to the side), LB Dannell Ellerbe (excused), OL Andrus Peat (at college), TE Jack Tabb, DL Junior Galette, DL Lawrence Virgil, and WR Marques Colston (observing) did not practice.

Starters on the offensive line: Zach Strief, Jahri Evans, Max Unger, Tim Lelito, Terron Armstead.

No. 2 offensive line: Bryce Harris, Sean Hickey, Michael Brewster, Mike McGlynn, Nick Becton

Offensive weapons: The Saints rotated players so often it was difficult to get a read on personnel groupings and how the depth chart is shaping up. Last week, Brandon Coleman was behind Seantavius Jones. It appeared to be rotated this week.

Defensive starters: Keenan Lewis, Brandon Browner, Jairus Byrd, Kenny Vaccaro, Ramon Humber, David Hawthrone, Cam Jordan, John Jenkins, Akiem Hicks, Anthony Spencer. Rafael Bush received some snaps in place of Byrd and Kyle Wilson was the nickel cornerback.

No. 2 defense: Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Pierre Warren, Vinnie Sunseri, Delvin Breaux, Stephone Anthony, Henry Coley, Parys Haralson, Tavaris Barnes, Tyeler Davison, Ashaad Mabry. P.J. Williams came in and Mabry came off in nickel looks. Rafael Bush also received some snaps with this grouping.

Fireworks: Offensive lineman Mike McGlynn and linebacker Ronald Powell got into a little shoving match that had to be broken up.

Offensive stars: Brandon Coleman and Seantavius Jones continue to stand out. Jones had the offensive play of the day when he went up and over Kyle Wilson for a catch on the sidelines.

Defensive star: Stephone Antony continues to look good. He broke up a couple of passes dropping into zone. Kenny Vaccaro also had a nice play when he stuck with Ben Watson deep down the field and broke up a pass.

Mixed day: Stanely Jean-Baptiste continues to do some things that catch the eye. He proved great coverage down the sideline a few times. But he also lost Nick Toon on a route over the middle for an easy reception.

Little movement: Hau’oli Kikaha received some snaps with the first-team defense late in practice. He also blitzed several times on the inside in base packages.

Punt returners: Brandin Cooks, C.J. Spiller, Marcus Murphy, Josh Morgan, Jalen Saunders. Spiller dropped one punt.

Kicker battle: Dustin Hopkins and Zach Hocker made all of their kicks from 34, 39, 42 and 45 yards.

Garrett Grayson: The main thing that stood out about the rookie is that he no longer has the elongated throwing motion he used during his senior season. It’s tightened up.

P.J. Williams:
The third-round pick intercepted a pass following a fumbled snap that was quickly tossed back to quarterback Ryan Griffin. He loses a couple style points there. Earlier in the practice Williams was scolded by the coaching staff for staying on the field in a package he was not a part of.

Excited about all of our draft picks but I literally can't wait to see Kikaha get after the QB.

32 sacks in 2 years!

Fancy that... an LB who can effectively drop into coverage.

That might come in handy during the season.
