Friday Football Forecast: Haslett faces tough off-season

By Ralph Malbrough / "The Forecast"

Jim Haslett’s off-season work just got tougher because of the departure of Mike McCarthy. Haslett now has to replace the main coaching voice Aaron Brooks has heard for his entire career.

For the first time in his career, Aaron Brooks will have a new voice in his ear at offensive coordinator.

Remember, McCarthy was Brooks’ quarterback coach in Green Bay before the Saints traded for him in 2000. For the first time Brooks will hear a different voice running the offense. Haslett needs to find a coordinator that can get the most out of Brooks and keep the quarterback’s fragile psyche on an even keel.

While most fans are pleased with the departure of McCarthy, I’m not one of them. McCarthy isn’t an upper echelon offensive mind but that’s because the Saints don’t have top shelf personal (in spite of what the fans think).

Thanks. Add to ego maniac a fragile psyche. So not only must he believe he is great, someone must constantly tell him so and McCarthy is gone. Don\'t they have pills for that?

You forgot about this saintwhodi:

McCarthy isn’t an upper echelon offensive mind but that’s because the Saints don’t have top shelf personal (in spite of what the fans think).
In spite of what some fans (insert saintwhodi here) think!!

saintwhodi --

You seem to be the only person in the world who thinks we have top 5 talent across the board on offense. At least that\'s what you indicate in just about every thread.

Just plug in ANY other QB and we\'ll be on our way to the playoffs. That\'s what he says.

Hmmmmmmmm...........

gumbo--throw in most other QB\'s who are atleast consistent and we would have made the playoffs..esp. with the last four game streak.

look at pittsburgh-in no way is that line up much better on paper than the saints..and their QB aint\' montana...

we should have been in and the rams should have been o ut.

every year-the same story. it\'s time to change the one thing that hasn\'t been changed-the QB. I\'ll take herbert back over the way brooks has played the last couple of years.

That says PERSONNEL, it does not say Saints don\'t have top shelf offensive talent. Way to over-react to a quote. Misinterpretation is your middle name though. Could personnel mean defense, coaches, front office what? PERSONNEL could mean anything. I never said we have top 5 talent int he current NFL, I said we have the BEST TALENT IN OUR TEAM\'S HISTORY. See the difference? No probably not.

which is true-on paper..but I\'ll take swilling., mills and herbert back over this defense and brooks...based solely on play.

Offensive talent in team history is the key baron. There is no question Mora\'s teams had the best defenses.

Did you even read that quote?

If ya did, then surly you can see the writer is talking about \"offensive\" talent.

Take a look at it again...

McCarthy isn’t an upper echelon offensive mind but that’s because the Saints don’t have top shelf personal (in spite of what the fans think).
It\'s talking about McCarthy. And it says McCarthy isn\'t a top shelf OC but he doesn\'t have the talent on offense to be a top shelf OC.

I spend half my time on here trying to straighten you out, saintwhodi...

Again, show me this line from your intepretation in that article.

And it says McCarthy isn\'t a top shelf OC but he doesn\'t have the talent on offense to be a top shelf OC.
Maybe if you spent the time you did attempting to straighten me out actually reading what you are arguing, it would save us all a lot of time. If he meant offensive talent, I am sure he can say it. But he didn\'t, he said personnel, and not even simply OFFENSIVE PERSONNEL. Sorry, try again.

Okay, the writer was saying McCarthy wasn\'t a top flight OC because he didn\'t have the personnel on defense to make it a top flight offense.

That sounds like something you would say. Oh, it was you who said it. I forgot...
