2015 NFL Draft: Best UDFA Signings

DL Bobby Richardson, Indiana – New Orleans Saints

http://thesportsquotient.com/media/p...23/bobby_1.jpg

It was extremely surprising that Bobby Richardson was not drafted. He is a bit undersized for defensive tackle, the position he played primarily in college, at 6’3 – 285 lbs. And he has dealt with some nagging injuries in the past. However, he is far more physically talented than many of the players selected in rounds six and seven.

Richardson has long arms (34 5/8 inches) that allow him to play taller than his height would indicate. He held his own against 5th overall pick OL Brandon Scherff and in doing so proved he is capable of battling NFL caliber offensive lineman. Richardson finished his senior season with 9.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, respectable numbers for a defensive tackle.

Richardson fits best as a 5 technique 3-4 DE who can slide inside on passing downs. He will have to earn his reps and wait his turn for playing time, but Richardson has the potential to be a solid NFL player.

So Richardson pushes Glenn Foster???

He's essentially the same size as Cam Jordan...

Sure, why not?!?

Excellent, we need 'em. Our DE/DT group is looking good going into camp

Jordan
Hicks
Jenkins
KWilliams
Foster
Richardson
Tull
Davison
Bunkley

A lot of these guys can play both DE and DT.

I really think coach is trying to maximize the positions a player can fit into we will not lose much to injuries

There is something about this guy that I really like. I can't quite put my finger on it but he really has me intrigued. He gets to the ball. I'm keeping a close eye on him when camp starts.

Probably the best 3-4 defense in the history of the NFL, Saints 1986-92, began with a healthy rotation of defensive linemen who could play both the 5-tech and the 0-tech or nose...

Through that period, Saints featured solid workhorses like Bruce Clark, Tony Elliot, Jim Wilks, Frank Warren, Jumpy Geathers, Wayne Martin, Les Miller, Pig Goff...

That's the kind of players the Saints should be sigining, and not to huge contracts, but having many players to rotate and to absorb injuries...
