Raiders, Alabama legend Ken Stabler dies at 69

R.I.P.

Ken "The Snake" Stabler, who starred at Alabama before becoming a Super Bowl-winning quarterback with the Raiders, has died after a brief battle with colon cancer. He was 69.

Just saw that on yahoo homepage.

He was married to Rose of WDSU weather.

Stabler did well for us way back with George Rogers and that group.
So-so but then the league was so different , smaller, etc.

Stabler made his name and career way back then.
That is too bad he died...colon cancer and not the "sauce" alcoholism.

Whenever I've heard the term "gunslinger" in regards to the NFL, I've thought of Kenny Stabler (OAK) ... not for his prolific passing, but because he was at the helm of those infamous Raider teams of the '70s ... not just anyone coulda' quarterbacked those teams ... R.I.P.

One of the greatest QB's of all time, the thing that stands out with me the most was his leadership skills. RIP Kenny, and prayers go out to his family!

R.I.P Snake.

I don't think he's in the HOF. He should be.

Stabler, nice guy, but reminds me too much of the Bum Phillips' regime and Bum's total inability to assess talent and lack of imagination offensively...

Archie was fine, we didn't need the Snake; what we needed was a Head Coach with ingenuity...

Kenny in the HOF? the rumors of being a gambler will always cloud him

the guy could win some amazing games and at the same time boy oh boy he could loss games in some of the most creative ways. that 40 yard or 30 yard backwards fumble was something else. lost the game at the very end with that play. I can not remember who we played or if kenny gave up a safety or a TD. a lot of his games where always very close to the spread so he was always getting eye balled.

what a character

old timers will always have the screwing Archie attach to Kenny time here with the saints.

Definitely fun to watch in his day, still can't believe he wound up passing through our doors.

Still think Stabler and the Cowboys were in on that safety in that early game in the season; remember like it was yesterday, we were in New Orleans with family (aunts, uncles, cousins) at one of Mom's family's houses for that game; my Dad's family was from just east of Dallas and were flying home that evening and someone thought it'd be a great idea if we all got together for the game; we went from this nice civil household to civil war that day...

That night, my Dad even acknowledged as he told my uncle (his brother-in-law) "Howard, Stabler must have owed someone, it'll be the same ole Creole Belles unless they get another quarterback or if they still had Archie"...
