draft fever is heating up enough that there are at least 4-6 new picks or updates on sites daily.

02/02
Channing Crowder - LB - Florida Lion Backer
Derrick Johnson - LB - Texas NFL Draft Countdown
Justin Miller - CB - Clemson Draft King
Travis Johnson - DT - Florida St. Sporting News

johnson fallling to 16 would be an even bigger godsend than getting deuce, donte, or smith as droppers. he is the surest thing in this class regardless of position imo.

No way that happens. No way. We only got that lucky once, and his name was Deuce. But he had to have the tag injury prone for it to happen. No such tag with Johnson.

If he falls out of the top 10 we will snag him, huh? We would have to. Its really way to early to tell but its great to talk about.

I agree, if anything Johnson may move into the top 3 before draft day...he is that much of a sure thing...if their is such a thing as a sure thing!

two words... thomas davis... this kid is great, and would also allow us to move Te-sucky to FS, where is better suited... if he\'s gone, take Crowder or Johnson (whoever is still available) and if they are gone, take best available OT (i\'m sorry but gandy is washed up)

chrxis i wouldnt mind anything you said but i think we have to keep gandy for at least one more year. well unless we can get someone in free agency. i agree we need a tackle but our first objective with a tackle should be to replace riley not gandy. but if we can get someone in the draft and in free agency maybe we can replace both. but if not ill take at least replacing riley this year.

i concur... which is why i made drafting an OT my 3rd option on the docket... i think we should, and probably will be forced to anyway, sign an OT from free agency, as there are some potential starters out there.

chrixs im with you on our o tackle problem

LKelley67 02-12-2005 11:47 AM

Browner moving up on charts everywhere i see-

Height: 6\'4\"
Weight: 202 lbs.
2002: Redshirt
2003: 43 Tackles 6 PBU 6 INT 2 FF
2004: 44 Tackles 9 PBU 0 INT
Brandon Browner is leaving Oregon State and heading into the 2005 NFL draft with two years of eligibility remaining. He took a redshirt in 2002 and really broke out as a freshman in 2003, recording six interceptions and earning Pac-10 freshman of the year honors. He has good speed and at 6\'4\" 202 pounds, he has the size NFL scouts covet in a cornerback. He has excellent ball skills and has proven to be a true \"ballhawk\" during his short career at Oregon State. With just two years of experience, Browner is still very raw and he needs a lot of work when it comes to technique. He has proven to be a very durable player, starting all 23 games of his career with the Beavers. He has a tremendous amount of upside and won\'t be on the board very long on draft day. He has all the tools to become a shutdown corner in the NFL and should be a second round pick in April.

our corners are not our problem... our problem is our front 7 being lazy, slow, and incompetent.... i think the ends are going to be good, but dt is a major weakness on the team (which is ironic considering the amount of draft we\'ve wasted there)... and the lb\'s with the exception of cie grant (only b/c he\'s not played, so i want to see what he\'s got) and watson, can all go up a rope as far as i\'m concerned.... i\'d get rid of all of \'em.... we have got to address the lb problem in free agency or the draft (preferably both)

You know better.

i do find it interesting seeing these mocks having n.o. trade up to get derrick johnson. also, seeing someone other than saint\'s fans opinion of what trade value might be. here are a couple of those-

New Orleans trades #16, Donte\' Stallworth, and Cie Grant to Oakland for #7. 7) New Orleans (From Oakland)-OLB Derrick Johnson TEX -Haslett finally gets the linebacker he\'s always wanted.

6. New Orleans Saints - TRADE (from Tennessee)...LB Derrick Johnson (Texas)...The Titans have a Salary cap mess to cleanup and may have to part with as many as 7 starters to ease their cap situation...drafting at this spot requires paying a hefty signing bonus (16.5 Million last year) and big contract (6 years - 40 million last year) that the Titans don\'t need at this time...the Saints have a big need at the LB position and covet Derrick Johnson...the Titans now own the 16th pick in this round with the rest of the trade details to be announced later.

Well are you going to at least tell me where that is from if you\'re not going to post a link?

they are the two on the list that have (trade) signified, hail redskins and texas east coast sports news. i just copy n paste the list from-
http://saintsrevolution.com/mockdrafthq.htm
when it is updated every few days there. the site names are linked there but i dunno how to copy a link to make it a link here as well (if it can be done).

i asked if we could get a coupla threads pinned, like for links, or reference material for free agency or the draft but it didnt happen. they are still around a few pages back, i\'ll try n add something so they dont get quite so lost.

fox sports pick n comment-

Alex Smith QB Utah
QB Aaron Brooks has needed a kick in the backside for years, and the selection of Smith would push Brooks to become the elite quarterback he is capable of being — or accelerate his departure. Smith would be a great value pick here.

tend to think its way to early to get into the draft senieros just yet... you\'ll lose your mind. Saints won\'t be trading up nor will Smith be there at all...

the saints are definitely not trading up..... they are still wary of that whole fiasco with sully.... see how that turned out, right? smith will almost certainly go before, but stranger things have happened.... in any case, we ain\'t drafting a qb, as long as haslett has a say (he is content with ab, i have no earthly idea why though)... like i\'ve said before, this draft all depends on what they do from mar. 2 til april 23, free agency period.... what they do in that time will dictate what they need to do in the draft.... my opinion, which ain\'t worth a nickel ;) is that we get thomas davis to play ss, much like seattle did with boulware this season...that worked great for them, why not us?
