Could Sean have called that 4th and 20 to see how they would react?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Do you think Sean called that blitz on 4th and 20 knowing it probably wouldn't work out to give the players a feel of what it is like with their backs against the wall? The call told him two things. ...

Do you think Sean called that blitz on 4th and 20 knowing it probably wouldn't work out to give the players a feel of what it is like with their backs against the wall? The call told him two things. 1-how we are at the all out blitz and two if the players had the toughness to hold on when the game is on the line. Just wondering if he put them in that situation on purpose. Like he said it was his call.

Also Pete Carmichael was calling the offensive plays. Wonder if that's the plan this year. I'd be cool with that.

Ultimately yes I think it was just a case of practicing situational football rather than calling a play that would have made more sense. That's what the preseason is for: testing different things out not so much worrying about winning.

Preseason; why not try it and see what happens... That's what I'm thinking

heck nothing was working on preventing long yardage downs anyways. TE again ate up the second level of the defense. their is bigger issues at hand than the play SP called.

Serious issues!

Exactly! Who cares? We have a whole slew of new folk -players, coaches, cheerleaders, hot dog cookers, beer hawkers, etc. to try out and get ready for the season. This was just an event to collect money from unsuspecting fans and give the team an idea of where everybody stands. It's still a long way to a game that really counts.

No, I think you blitz on fourth and 20 under the idea that you do not give them enough time to get 20 yards down field. I think blitzing on 4rth and 20 is a good idea, but the players have to get there..

Payton called it to remind the defense, and coaches, what didn't work in the event they forgot what happened last season...

Pretty f**king sad with that jailbreak blitz we didn't get anyone on the quarterback...

But of course he did... why else do it? Certainly not in regular season...

Could have just been that wild eyed Juicy Fruit sugar rush call. No thinking required.
