Watered Down Football

As I was watching the Pats/Eagles super bowl and hearing about how great the Pats were, I started thinking...

Are the Pats a dynasty? I think so. How could they not be? They've won 3-super bowls in 4 years. If that's not a dynasty, I don't know what is!!

But, somehow, I feel cheated!!!!!!!

When I look around the NFL, I see a lot of very bad teams. And the best of teams in the NFL aren't NEARLY as good as what they use to be.

If the 49'er dynasty were still around they would CRUSH the Patriots. And so would the Cowboy dynasty.

The best defense in the NFL is probably the Pats. But, they're not even close to being as good as the "Dome Patrol" defense of the Saints.,

And they're not close to being as good as the Philly defense with Reggie White and co. I can think of 10 defenses in any one particlar year that were better than the Pats defense.

And the Pats offense isn't that great either. By today's standards it's good. But, I'd sure like to see Bill Bellichick play the old 49'ers, Cowboys, or even the Buffalo Bills.

The NFL is very watered down and I really miss watching some of the excellent teams of the past. Even if it did hold some of the other teams down before free-agency.

you know-i was thinking the same thing..i also don\'t think they compare to the 90s cowboys either..

could you imagine montana/rice, or aikmen/Irvin would have feild days on the pats defense.

emmit smith would blow through their linebacking core..

could you imagine ronnie lott versus brady?

I don\'t think they compare even with the good green bay teams of favre and white.

but they won..

I know right? Before free agency came along I thought \"oh good, the dynasties will die and the Saints will have a chance.\"

Then the Patriots go and prove that all free agency means that whoever has the best owner and coach wins (Saints will always lose here). So, the Saints still don\'t have a real chance. Since thats the case, I\'d rather have the old dynasties. At least a few of them were in the south.

I don\'t know that I want to go back to the days before free-agency. I think it was harder for teams to compete back then.

Then again, maybe not. The Buffalo Bills did okay. And they\'re a smaller market team.

Still, it\'s easier for a cellar-dwellers to go from 3-13 to the playoffs or super bowl. At least every fan knows they have a realistic shot of going to the playoffs.

I really do miss seeing excellence. The Pats are the closest thing to that. But, it is far and away from being the excellence I witnessed with some of the past dynasties...

The Pats MAY NOT( I say may cause players are definitely bigger, faster, and stronger, but I will go from a talent stand point here and those other teams had that) beat any of those other dynasty teams in a game, but they also aren\'t able to stockpile hall of famers on one team either cause of the cap. They may not be the greatest dynasty of all time, but for what they have done in the period in which they have done it, they have had the greatest accomplishment in NFL history.

I must agree -- but what is really getting me is that they are putting Tom Brady in the same league as Montana as the greatest pressure QB ever. I\'m sorry but while he is good he is the product of a very well coached team -- also he has loads of time in the pocket. What I am impressed about it their teamwork. They are a team that definitely shows that leadsership, coaching and teamwork can take a good team and make them great

I\'m not even sure joe cool was the greates qb ever-but he definitly is in a few classes above brady..or anyone else playing now.

Why not? By you agreeing to the aforementioned thought that the Patriots have less talent than the Cowboys/49er teams, you\'re basically saying that Tom has done what Joe did, with less talent around him.

As far as I can tell the biggest reason to NOT put Brady in the same camp as Montana is this: Montana did it his whole career, regularly, and with that Montana-like dignity. Brady is good, maybe even as good, but how can we really tell until Brady has played at least another 5 or so seasons?

If this is watered down football then I\'m a huge watered down football fan. Instead of 3 or 4 teams with a chance to go all the way you now have 10 or 12. No more superstar back-ups on 3 or 4 teams. Every team has 22 quality players competeing each week. Its better for the players, the fans, and the NFL.
I think todays teams are much more balanced top to bottom than the old teams. I think the Pats of today would absolutely DESTROY the 49\'ers, and Cowboys of old. No doubt in my mind at all.

If someone wants to actually justify that the pre-free-agency period was better than todays NFL, they are a complete and utter idiot, in my humble opinion.
This is ultra-competitive, evenly matched competition. Every team has about the same number of superstars. Very few teams are stocked with bad talent.

I am so freaking glad that every Sunday the majority of games are close and competitive.
Is there anything worse than watching a game you know is gonna be a 30 point blow-out, and is a 20 point game at half-time?. CLICK!
The \"good old days\" sucked, unless you were fortunate enough to be a fan of one of the 3 teams who had a shot at the Superbowl. You can keep the 70\'s and 80\'s football all you want. I\'ll take modern NFL over any of that crap, any day.

I\'m sorry but while he is good he is the product of a very well coached team -- also he has loads of time in the pocket. What I am impressed about it their teamwork.
