Novak is a very solid kicker and really good under pressure. Struggles beyond 50 but that is almost every kicker. Nothing wrong with some spirited competition especially with a rookie kicker and more emphasis on the kicking game this year.

I thought Hocker did well enough to win the job. Payton does love to tinker needlessly it seems.

Hockers mind is probably a little confused right now. He just beat out another good kicker the entire training camp and wins. Now just as his nerves has settled and he has a great frame of mind Payton does this. A bit unsettling if you ask me. Although I did like the other kicker in training camp a little better.

Can all kick 50 yards.

Seattle relies on their kicker a lot. Thats how they have won a lot of games. Denver and New England also have relied on their kicker as well.
Today 3 points are a big deal.

Yeah I couldn't stand that Jim Carney guy. He never showed up for games.

But his twin, John, was pretty good aside from the missed extra point against Jacksonville. When he came back to us the second time, he was not so good anymore.
