Montana, Favre, Warner the HOF list goes on... We've all seen this movie before. When it's time to move on, you move on.

Time is the ultimate decision maker for a team. That and an outrageous price tag to keep a QB on the roster, more out of loyalty, than for what he contributes to a team struggling to move forward.

I love the man. I love the QB and what he has meant to the team and the NOLA region. But I struggle with watching his skills degrade.

It's like watching your favorite heavyweight fighter get in the ring when he's old. You want him to win, but deep in your heart, you know he's going to get banged up by a younger fighter.

A wise man once said, "Poo-poo smells just as bad as s#!%. One just SOUNDS cuter!"

Re: Please get off of Brees

Saints will always be the Saints no matter who is under C or what position is played. Brees has been a welcome sight for 10 years and has produced well for 10 years, he shattered Archies records, led us to NFC South championships, NFC title games and a big Superbowl which I never thought I would ever see, Drew Brees was there and did all those great and memorable things. I love him for that. He was in decline before he was hurt, as a Saints fan (meaning team first) paying any QB. or any position that amount of money on a declining player that has seen his better days is putting the Saints team last. Thats something I'm not willing to do. I was hoping he went out like Elway did riding off into the sunset smiling but Brees was dealt a different hand than Elway. If we restucture him we need to put in a clause that asures he can be traded and trade him for picks. I can't see cutting him and get nothing. Personally I hope he retires and enjoys his life and what he has accomplished which is more than alot of players can ever say.

Re: Please get off of Brees

I thought it was kinda refreshing to see Luke out there. Just as a fresh air, change-of-scenery, let's-take-a-vacation type thing. That last drive, he started at the 29 and moved the ball efficiently all the way to the Panthers 23 before the pick. I thought it was a bad/impossible playcall rather than a really bad throw by McCown. Throwing a jump ball to a tiny 5'4" receiver covered by a 7'4" defender in the corner of the end zone, you run that play 5 times in a row and probably 4 of them will be picks or broken up.

Seems like since these doldrums set in about 12 games or so ago, with Drew in the game, when we get to those do-or-die drives late in the game, seems like the offense usually stalls out in those late desperation drives, with either a 3 and out, penalties, or a stupid turnover or whatever. At least this time they got down to the other end of the field and were threatening before the flop!

Colston just looks like Colston.... He was fumbling and dropping the ball like this at the beginning of last year as well. Maybe he gets it together.

Re: Please get off of Brees

Extend Brees with lower cap number and give him a chance to win games. Look at Denver. Peyton Manning is not playing his best football but they are winning games. Why? Let's see. They have two great wide receivers in Thomas and Sanders. Catches they made last night were unbelievable. Cheap serviceable RBs. They don't overpay that position. Shaky O-line but they are getting better. And yes, they are having DEFENSE! Best pass rushing duo in NFL (Miller, Ware), big nasty guys in the middle, two shutdown corners in Talib and Harris. Not to mention young guys that are constantly improving (Bradley Roby).

Last but not least: Wade Phillips and GM Elway. (guy actually understands football)

I won't kid myself that we are talented team and our perfomance on sundays is bad luck or that we are 1-2 players away of being relevant again. We are poor coached team with lack of talent on multiple positions. In order to have better players on both sides of the ball (better team) there are two things that must happen. GM with b**ls and new coaching staff. If Payton survives coaching changes he needs to stay the f*** away from defense (unlkely, his ego won't let that happen).

And that's the rub. If management had vision, they would have already been grooming the 'heir apparent' who would have benefited immensely from Brees' teaching. As it stands, in Star Wars terms, any Padawan who learns under him may not have the Jedi Master long before he moves on.

Encourage him to get out when he's on "top" and not drag the franchise through one of those Bret Favre "I'm a giant douchebag" fiascos.
It takes you a year to recover from a bruise? Seriously? I'm sorry but that was either the most uninformed comment I have either read or the most asinine. I'm giving you the shadow of the doubt and just assuming you don't know crap.

Don't forget him holding the organization hostage for that contract, which prevented us from franchising Carl Nicks and keeping the best interior line in football together for several more years.

He might be a Saint, be he's no Saint.
No. He is a professional and handled all of those situations better than 99% of the people on these boards. That so called hostage situation was for a contract that is being dwarfed by below average starters today.

Groomed feces is still feces. The NCAA is producing a franchise caliber QB at a rate of about one every three years in the recent years. Brees, today, is better than virtually every available QB coming out. I have seen zero from Grayson and cannot ever see him as more than a backup, if that.

It is all good and well to want the QB of tomorrow, but give me Brees for four more years instead of moving back to the days of Aaron Brooks and beyond. Simply put, you don't replace a part until you have a working part to use in its place.

Yes, McCown did well this week. Brees would have done just as well. In fact, I believe McCown played as well as he is capable ... and he lost.

You know the old saying, "beware of what you wish for, you just may get it." Personally I not wanting to go through another 30 year stretch of mediocre to poor QB's that have no shot of breaking .500 in any given season. No thank you.

Re: Please get off of Brees

Yep. We will be back to the old QB carousel before long crying about that instead. This team has decent RB's, one weapon as a receiver who is an amazing #2-3 but not a #1. Right side of our o-line is a disaster and our defense will make any opposing team look hall of fame worthy.
