Brees restructure/ Hicks trade?

I would expect most would see some type of connection, but look at the numbers.

The Brees restructure opened up $2.6M in 2015 cap.

The Hicks trade actually netted the Saints another $100K or so.

Something else is obviously in the works.

Clearly... Because $100k is a fortune in the NFL.

I'm sure there will be other moves, but this is hardly interesting or enlightening.

All eyes are on the Chicago Fire Sale, maybe?

and I think the Brees restructure means we can end all of the trade talk.

Spending 5.2 gets you 2.6? Is that a WIN - win? Do all of these transactions cost the team $1.00 for every .50 cents they pay?

Seems awful quiet don't see anything around the net on any trades. Usually Adam Schefter has the inside information before anyone else.

Glazer gets the Saints scoops usually. He is friends with Payton.

No, Brees was getting the $5.2M this year anyway. The restructure lowered his 2015 base salary by $5.2M which was converted to a signing bonus which was then prorated over the remaining two years of his contract. The net effect is that the 2015 cap hit is lowered by $2.6M and the 2016 cap hit is increased by $2.6M.

Shuffling of numbers is what cost accounting is all about. It doesn't cost the team anything. Brees gets that money immediately instead of spread out over the 17 weeks of this regular season so he can start earning interest on it sooner. So, yes, it is a win/win.
