J.P. Losman

AP reports after a couple of weeks at home in California, QB J.P. Losman arrived back at the Buffalo Bills complex this week to begin offseason workouts, and there is a pretty good reason why the 2004 first-round pick is suddenly the team's early bird in the weight room. The decision has essentially already been made by Bills officials, several sources told ESPN.com, that Losman, who missed much of his rookie season recovering from a broken leg suffered in training camp, will be the starter in 2005. In fact, it is believed that Buffalo officials have apprised QB Drew Bledsoe of the plan to elevate the former Tulane star to the top of the depth chart and are giving the 12-year veteran some time to consider the ramifications of the move, and to determine if he wants to return to the Bills as the backup. Bledsoe is due a $1.05 million roster bonus in early March, and a base salary of $3.3 million for 2005, and has a salary cap charge of $6 million-plus. The Bills seem to feel they have gone about as far as they can with Bledsoe, and view the success of QB Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh this season as validation that you can win with a young quarterback when you surround him with solid talent. Losman appeared in just four games in 2004, all cameos, and threw only five passes. But HC Mike Mularkey and his staff are enamored of the former Tulane signal caller, both from a physical and intangibles standpoint, and are ready to make the transition. As for Bledsoe, well, the Bills maintain a great deal of respect for the veteran and want to do right by him. There has been some speculation that the Dallas Cowboys might be interested in Bledsoe, who began his NFL career under Bill Parcells at New England in 1993 and at 33 is eight years younger than QB Vinny Testaverde. Then again, Bledsoe might prefer to be released, and then choose his own landing spot for 2005.

Good luck! I think he'll be fine. I wish we had a young talented signal caller to start. Oh wait, we do... it's Aaron Brooks! *sarcasm*

I remember a while back there were some rumors the Saints were interested in Patrick Ramsey. Probably just some locals starting rumors but he isn\'t happy in Washington and maybe he and Gibbs don\'t see eye to eye.
I wonder what it would take to work a deal for Ramsey.

Ramsey, IMHO, is a good QB who could be a solid starter in the NFL is he got coddled the way Brooks does. I am not at all surprised by Losman. He was flat great in college at a small school. Tulane has been a QB machine of late, and each one is better than the one prior. I\'d take any guy smart enough to get into Tulane and be as successful as these guys were there.

imo, i really don\'t see losman being anything other than a servicable qb.... the bills will soon figure this out.... i\'m not sure what everyone else sees out of this kid, but he\'s never really impressed me a whole lot with what he\'s done... yeah, in college he was decent, but look at the level of competition he was playing against.... put him on an SEC/Big XII/ACC competition level, he\'s not even drafted b/c he doesn\'t do anything, guaranteed

Gee --- did Losmanput up great numbers -- I guess his defense must have been great huh -- because any QB who is asked to do much for his team will always put up bad numbers

don\'t give me that \"he was an all-time great at tulane\" ****.... it was freaking tulane!! they play nobody.... hell, i could have gone out there against some of those defense and thrown for 200+ yds myself... the fact of the matter is this, while he is a good qb, he is not what everyone makes him out to be... and if you think leon is egotistical, jesus h. christ, this guy, wow!
