Saints Cut Joe Morgan

New Orleans Saints release wideout Joe Morgan | NOLA.com

The New Orleans Saints have released wide receiver Joe Morgan, according to the NFL transaction wire.

Safety Kenny Phillips was also released, leaving two open spots, one of which will go to punter Brandon Fields when his signing is made official on Wednesday. Fields was signed as a temporary replacement for injured punter Thomas Morstead.

Morgan earned a spot back on the team after a rough 2014 season that saw him suspended and then released, but was rarely able to crack the offensive lineup in three games this season. He was a healthy scratch against the Cowboys.

Morgan did not initially make the 53-man roster, but was told he would be back after the Saints made some more transactions. Morgan returned in Week 2 but took only 10 snaps against the Buccaneers and did not have a snap against the Panthers.

Pretty sure he'll be back eventually

True, and Joe was basically that guy to draw defenses deep to cover for the deep throw, but Drew can't... well, you know, throw over 35 yards?

Time for SP to go to the two QB system. Let Brees go up to the line, read the defense and toss it to the Kid!
