What a bunch of douchebags, ie the NFL Front Office. They won't keep him from playing but they're gonna' fine him $11k per week if he wants continue paying tribute to his Dad? This isn't Jim McMahon (CHI) and his stupid head scarfs or some player that wants to wear an outrageous piece of equipment. Come on!

Re: NFL fines son of former Saints player Craig Heyward for tribute to his late father

Not only is it ridiculous not to let him honor his own dad, there shouldn't be any policy against writing on your eye black or anywhere else.

I say that knowing full well that some might write some pretty inflammatory things. It would probably be pretty annoying at times. But I don't know where the NFL gets off thinking it can control what people say. I just love how they want to treat it like this is some sort of suit and tie business. These players aren't salesmen.

The game grows itself. People want to watch football, and while they might not care for some things that players do, they don't let it affect how they enjoy the game. The league needs it's players. The players and the league need the fans. If anyone should be making decisions on what is offensive, it should be the fans.

The guys who think they run the league are nothing but puppets. No one really needs them. They aren't the talent. They aren't the product. Why do they care what players do? And why should anyone care what the NFL thinks? The whole system is a joke.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Its a business, they can say anything they want. I for one have no problem with players being forced to adhere to the rules they agreed to.

They take the brand seriously. They should. Break the rule pay the fine. Simple simple. How much is it worth?

The players are the business. The only reason you need a governing body to oversee the players, is to have rules for the game itself. Kind of like how we all have to follow the law. Players can't simply be allowed to cheat on the field, and we can't just go around committing crimes.

But beyond that, there is no need for all that other crap. It's a game. It's not about image. People tune in for the game. Neither Roger, nor anyone else in the league office is responsible for any growth of the game. They have made the game far worse for all the pathetic rules they've put in place. And yet fans keep coming in larger numbers.

For two simple reasons. People love football, and wouldn't know what to do without it. And fantasy football. The NFL isn't even the one who thought of fantasy football.

And I don't buy into the "adhere to the rules they agreed to" argument. You think Cameron Heyward agreed to that? He wasn't in the league the last time there were any negotiations. Most players have no say. The players union is all about compensation for it's players. They won't fight the league on outside issues if they can get their share of the money. Players go along with whatever they're told by the union, the majority of the time. That's the union's fault for caving, and it's the league's fault for even submitting such pointless ideas.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Re: NFL fines son of former Saints player Craig Heyward for tribute to his late father

I can't believe what some of you guys are saying. We bash the league for inconsistent "rules" on domestic violence and drugs, etc... We're all in agreement on those things. We hear the NFL talk about "protecting the shield". We crush them for turning the league into glorified flag football, with all the penalties.

Now a guy gets fined for trying to honor his dad, and you think it's justified, because those are the rules and that's it? Don't you have just a little bit of an issue with these rules? I sure as hell didn't vote for this circus of a government and all of the subsequent laws they have created, but others did. Should I just be ok with that, then?

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

So then a UPS driver or Mc Donalds clerk should be allowed to write whatever they want on their uniform or themselves while performing their job?
