New Orleans Saints sign LB Henry Coley to practice squad
 

The New Orleans Saints have signed rookie linebacker Henry Coley to their practice squad, according to Tuesday's NFL transactions wire.

Coley signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia in May and played well in training camp. But he was waived after failing to make the team and did not latch on with another club.

Cornerback Sammy Seamster cleared waivers on Tuesday and is expected to be re-signed to the Saints' 10-man practice squad.

That would leave one vacancy on the active roster, which could be filled by receiver Joe Morgan, although there was no official transaction announced on Tuesday.

Morgan was cut on Saturday when Seamster was promoted from the practice squad to serve as an emergency defensive back on the 47-man roster.

Morgan watched Sunday's game against the Colts from Lucas Oil Stadium, an indication that the roster switch came at the last moment and that Morgan could be back soon.

Coley, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound linebacker, finished his four-year career at Virginia with 29.5 tackles for loss.

The 23-year-old Virginia Beach native was an All-ACC second team selection in 2014.

Veteran Saints linebacker David Hawthorne suffered an apparent injury late in Sunday's game. The extent of his injury is unknown and it's not clear if Coley's signing is related.

Hawthorne has lost most of his reps to Dannell Ellerbe, who has also battled injury problems in 2015.

The Saints (3-4) resume practice on Wednesday for their game against the New York Giants (4-3) on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

I think it's a good signing. From what I saw in pre season, the potential is there & the guy is a thumper.

I agree, might as well keep moving forward with the youth movement starting to pay off.

I also agree! The younger players will want to impress all the onlookers and that can only be good for our team, especially with a good group of vets to give them some pointers!

I like Coley , might be a blessing in disguise. So far Ellerby has played great. I hope he gets healthy he is the key in the lb. squad.
