Interesting player for us...

AP reports New York Jets veteran MLB Sam Cowart, who lost his starting job to rookie MLB Jonathan Vilma after suffering a sprained left knee in Week 2, has asked the team to trade or release him. Cowart has three years left on his contract. He has a base salary of $1.5 million in 2005 with a $500,000 roster bonus due next month. His cap number is $2.9 million. He provides the Jets with quality depth and the flexibility to switch from a 4-3 to 3-4 alignment.

If anyone has ever watched Cowart play, you'd know he's a tackling machine. I don't believe he's over 30 and if he can stay healthy, which is the only concern, he would be a very good and cheap investment to bring in to compete with Watson or Allen. He's an injury-prone ProBowl caliber player who would probably benefit from coming back down south.

If he\'s cheap, but I am tired of getting guys who may be on their last legs. We need to stop trying old and cheap and bring in young and semi-costly and build for the long term, not just a one year run or something.

that is kinda what I was thinking whodi..but also..this type of vet might be excatly what are defense needs-leadership...

I\'m not saying he isn\'t, but we always say that. Ambrose, Rodgers, Conwell, Riley, Gandy. This vet will do this and this vey will do that. And they don\'t. Bring in some young guys who have years left and stop under-paying for over this hill has-beens. I am not saying Cowart won\'t help, cause he probably will, but then we will see the sharp fall like Ambrose and even Thomas, and then we will be saying we shoulda got Hartwell while he was free.

Yea it\'s a risk signing someone that keeps getting injured but he\'ll probably be very cheap. You never know we might strike it rich like Bucs did last year with Ian Gold.

And wasn\'t Javon Kearse constantly hurt with the Titans? Goes to Philly and stays healthy (I think).
I\'ve always like Cowart (a Danno family name also), but there are better options *cough*Hartwell*cough*.

But Kearse isn\'t over 30 and oft-injured. That\'s the difference in these two. I agree totally on Hartwell.

Probably a massive difference in salary though... doubting our management will be willing to put up that kind of money.

Cowart may be cheap, but Hartwell is awesome.

I agree with Danno here. Let\'s get a stud in here, not someone who may be a stud.

I agree Cowart is on his last leg and is probably done, which is exactly why we will pick him up

seems to be our MO.

I think he is still serviceable... and for somewhere around 1 mil... it\'s worth the risk. Obviously we would ALL LOVE to have Hartwell here, but I doubt Benson and Loomis will put out that kind of cash. If not he\'d become a pretty good mentor to Watson.
