This is really good to see

Stephone Anthony has 72 tackles and is on pace for 115

Vic Beasley has 19 and is on pace for like 35. He also only has two sacks.

So glad we didn't take that bum

But isn't Vic a DL? Regardless, as of this moment, Anthony was the better choice. I have read Vic is to up and down and disappears for games but he is a rookie, so some slack should be given.

I think the funnier comparison is Vic Beasley-Hau'oli Kikaha. We were lambasted by many draft experts for taking Kikaha in the second round... Heck, I'll admit I thought at the time that it was a reach as well. But here's how it looks:

Vic Beasley: 19 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble

Hau'oli Kikaha: 38 tackles, 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles

Now I read that the Failclowns are moving Beasley to the left side because he can't compete against left tackles. I'd say we got way better value with Kikaha.

Now we need two more just like him.

I declare he now be referred to as Vic Measley.

It really is a nice change to hit on early defensive picks rather than our usual questionable drafting practices. The Saints concentrated too much energy on small school prospects or took chances on injured players. Their whole drafting philosophy was flawed.

I am cautiously optimistic that Jeff Ireland is able to evaluate defensive talent. Payton and Loomis both have a terrible history of drafting poorly on defense. Ireland might have the ability to rein in Payton's gambling side on draft day. We had nine draft picks this year. Not the usual 5-6 picks left over from bad trades. If we want to build from within, which is cheaper, it has to be through the draft.

Ireland seems to have made a difference

Remember Hugh Green? Bum Phillips drafted his team mate Rickey Jackson.

32 sacks in 2 years, the stats don't lie.

I hope he has a strong finish to the season and gets 10+ in his rookie season.

Green was no slouch. Remember Randy Gradishar? We picked Rick Middleton instead.
