Christian McCaffrey Thread

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I know we have numerous needs on defense that we need to address in the upcoming draft, however if this guy is available in the later rounds of the draft, should the Saints take him?...

Re: Christian McCaffrey Thread

He's a sophomore, so he's not even eligible. I wouldn't have any interest in him, regardless. He's a guy they force feed the ball to in any way they can. Most teams do a better job of spreading the wealth. So he has some inflated stats. Good college player, all the same, but I don't see him fitting in the NFL as anything other than a third down receiving back. The Patriots love those guys.

Are you an ole miss fan? Treadwell is one thing, maybe, but Kelly would be a disastrous choice unless his game grows by leaps and bounds next year. Even then, he's a bit of a punk. He's got a long way to go to prove he's not the next Ryan Leaf in the mental department.

Re: Christian McCaffrey Thread

Christian McCaffrey Hmmm reminds me of Wes Welker if Welker was a RB. Their running styles are the same. Darting quick and decisive. excellent field vision and reaction time. football iQ is off the charts.

Shame he another year to go. but trading down in the draft and getting picks next year with the hope he comes out as a Jr would be ok with me.

Would love to see Stanford use him more in the passing game next year but that is not their brand of football.

i am a fan of his ability to block also. But just like using him more in a passing game that is not an area he will get many chances to improve on.

So whats not to like? no reason putting the kid under a microscope to find out. He could be the player to replace what the saints have missed since PT left. but even better.

They use him in the passing game a ton. Stanford IS a team predicated on the run, but he's not the type of back they're accustomed to. He's not very big and would not do well at the next level running the ball. I am certain he would struggle in the SEC, running the ball, but in the PAC-12 it's all about offense.

He just doesn't really have the frame, from the looks of him, to carry much more weight. So he'd have to be a third down back or a slot receiver. He's not physical like PT, so while he might be slippery, I can easily see him being a Reggie Bush type who would make some plays but frustrate everyone with how easily he goes down. Just my opinion.

If it were a late round pick next year, maybe. But someone is going to bite on his numbers and take a reach.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

He is no were a completed project and has area he needs to improve in and being at Stanford does limit these areas. I want to see what he does in the off season. I am betting 5 to maybe 10 more pounds of muscle.

It is so hard to pick on the kid because he is always on the field and does so much.

That is why went with PT and Wes to compare with. If PT and Wes genes were used to produce a child it would McCaffrey.

sure he would lacking in areas from both but you have admit being just a sophomore he will be fun to watch develop.
