Carmichael vs.Sean

It really should be no shock that Brees has had his most yards in those two years. Carmichael's system is more simple and focuses on the best players while Sean's is complicated and he gets too cute.

Lance Moore, had his best season in 2012. Used at home more than on the road. Colston was more involved in the stronger games. And Graham was Graham. The running game was complicated that year because Sproles was banged up and there was a RBBC with Thomas and Ingram. But nonetheless all three major weapons got involved.

When Sean went down in 2011 and surrendered playcallling the offense put up a lot more points and blew out all but two teams the rest of the season. Graham, Colston, Meachem, all were strong this year.

Carmichael was just imo a better playcaller. He learned from Sean but also simplified things and cut out the cute plays.

I agree. The only way I would like to see Sean finish out his contract here is if he agreed to letting Carmichael call the plays & Dennis Allen choose his own coaching staff.

The thing is was Carmichael using Sean's playbook? And if Sean left would the OC keep Carmichael on?

Isn't Carmichael already the OC?

I don't think Carmichael is the answer, because the biggest question facing the Saints' offense is: how to fix the O-line and provide better pass/run blocking?

Two young pro bowl talent level guards would do wonders for years to come...

Re: Carmichael vs.Sean

There have been a couple of times this year where Sean has overall called a really great game. The Lions game was NOT one of those efforts, of course. I think the "playcalling" overall just feels worse than it really is, because of that recent hugely stinking effort last Monday really fouling up the air. Light a candle or a match, burn some incense, leave the room, let the air clear -- the playcalling overall this year is not really that bad. They don't always give up on the run after ten plays, or do the gimmick plays, flea flicker, quadruple reverse etc. I thought for being losing efforts, both Carolina games were still well called, we had opportunities for plays to win them....the Giants game was well called, the Dallas game had its moments & was fun....I thought the Falcons and Giants games in particular were classic Payton, one of his more brilliant performances....

Carmichael wasn't all that when he was given the whole reins and keys to drive the sled in 2012, I thought that was pretty obvious.

This. When Carmichael called the plays we had one of the best offensive lines in football.

A strong RT and one guard would make a huge difference to this team. Armstead and Unger are the basis of a formidable line. Ideally we'd see two guards but we could live with one and a RT if Peat isnt ready.

Its the same on the D-Line imo. Get a pair of DT or NT-DE if staying in a 3-4 another OLB and the team suddenly starts looking at 10+ wins
