Just my opinion guys ...

The entire defensive staff needs to be gutted. Look at a younger position coach that comes from a solid, aggressive system (Broncos, Seahags, Jets). No need to call guys who are retreads with complicated schemes.

Specifically on defense, our non blitzing/passive schemes we ran with Spaggs & Rob aren't working. We need to blitz a LOT, even if we get burned a time or two.

I'm all in on the youth movement with players and coaches as well. We need new faces, fresh ideas to compete in 2016.

I agree except I am ok with keeping and giving DA a chance.

Lofton?

I don't have any specific changes to predict but I don't think they will be swift or "instant gratification" type moves made today or tomorrow like some people here seem to want....I think Payton is quietly telling certain people to sharpen up their resumes and look for other employment, so they peel off from the ship gradually, as opposed to BOOM -- dropping the hammer on half the staff, all at once, creating turmoil like some people seem to want. A lot of good assistant coaches and coordinators around the league are still active and playing games yesterday, next weekend, and onwards until middle of February...still plenty of time to watch and get ideas, then make some phone calls in the next month or so...

I thought Lofton played well for us. He led the team in tackles for several years. He was a liability in coverage but he was a thumper. I liked the guy.

I actually though he was better for us than what I thought he was with Atlanta.

The good thing is DA does blitz a lot, which he adopted from GW.

DA scheme-wise is very similar to GW. Personality and assertiveness is different as DA seems more technical while GW was more aggressive.

I think DA will perform very well given the chance and given more talent in the front 7.

And Jonathan Casillas found a starting gig...

...it's happened...

And I'd agree with the previous post that having hired Willis (Inside Linebackers) and assigning Brian Young (Outside Linebackers) this past offseason at least shows the organization acknowledges those areas were worefully underperforming...

Now to address two other areas, the indefensible defensive line and that porous offensive line...

You could add Dun-bar to the list.

There is no doubt we have not added (through FA or the draft) very much talent to the position in the past, however what value does Vitt add?

Does letting Vitt go (he will be joining his son this year) add value to the team? My opinion is yes, but no one knows for sure until he's gone.

Until last year's draft, we've not added a linebacker of note unless it came through free agency...

Perhaps with Ireland in tow along with new specialized coaches in Willis and Young, we'll see an improvement...

Vitt had been Payton's enforcer on the staff...

Now with Payton clearly in charge of the franchise, that role may be reduced that Vitt can move on and join his son-in-law, Adam Gase, in Miami...

Re: Saints 2016 Coaching Staff

The guy I'd hire to start taking this rebuilding defense in the right direction is Clemson DC Brent Venables...

Bama is so ****ing deep, it was inevitable that they'd find cracks in the Clemson personnel; but Clemson's front seven has been one nasty force since he arrived in 2012...

He's the defensive mind that could match Payton and really get things turned around...

Let Vitt leave, promote Allen to Assistant HC to be Payton's enforcer, coaching instructor and let this guy come in and take hold of the defense - now that'd be exciting...
