Did Payton actually hold the running game back this year?

Did he throw in the towel early? Why I ask? All the repetitive screens that were not working, but hardly getting any of the RBs involved in the literal passing game. Which makes me wonder if the reason why some think we're fine with what we have at receiver is because of that particular missing element. It was already said snaps were limited for Peat and Kikhaha late season to block film study.

We couldn't afford the time it takes to get the run going in a game with the way the defense was playing...

he's been doing that his whole career here besides 2006 and 2009, can't say I'm surprised if true

To be fair KRob and Ingram both got hurt this year. The screens are to spread the defense out. Payton is extremely smart offensively and I trust him in that department.

Too many times when we tried to run there was too much penetration by the opposing D that we lost yards and then down and distance wouldn't allow you to run again. Payton did try to run, OL just wasn't always up to the task.

It's hard to run when there are no holes. Also, you need to pass when playing from behind.

The reason the run game wasn't working and the reason the screen game wasn't working has the same answer = THE O-LINE not good enough!!!

Bah! I don't belive it one bit. The running game was a problem but we stuck with it and it got better over the season. Especially with the (re)emergence of Hightower.

So you're saying in the first half when we were leading or barely trailing we didn't have time to get rb toss?

I think roughly around the Indianapolis game was where the O line started giving Ingram a chance and actually making their blocks.

However we killed ourselves multiple times, we could have easily lost the game vs colts.

Ingram with a 51 yard run down to the 1 yard line and then Brees threw a pick.

Colts scored 21 unanswered points on us after that.
