BlackandBlue --

Hey, when I say that Haslett and co. have done a good job of selling fans on Courtney Watson ... What I mean is that I think Haslett has sold fans (myself included) on our linebackers for quite a while. Now, I\'m not say fans are simply sold because of what Haslett has said in the past. But, I do think fans start to beleive some of the hype that comes out of Saints\' camp.

That statement wasn\'t intended to offend anyone, and I\'m sure not the first guy on this board to make that statement.

In regards to what formation the defense was in when I saw Watson out of position ... I have no specifics and I\'m really just going by memory. Granted, I don\'t have enough factual evidence to say exactly how well Watson played. It just seemed to me that he could have played much better. Even for a rookie.

My point in starting this thread really wasn\'t to say Watson was a bum or anything like that. Instead, what I meant to get accross is that I think MLB is the most important position of all the linebackers and I don\'t think we\'re best served with Courtney Watson there. No matter what Jim Haslett may say, I think it\'s mistake.

Waston may go on to be the next Ray Lewis. But, he didn\'t make enough plays last year at MLB!
what\'s terribly Ironic about this arguement is that it could be applied to other positions as well...in fact one that Gumbo states doesn\'t ever admit to making mistakes.

I\'m pretty sure that Br ks isn\'t going to be the next Ray Lewis either.

WARNING!! WARNGING!! The following material is meant as a joke. Any relation to actual events is strictly coincidental. AB discretion is advised!

Sounds like agenda talk to me.

Here\'s the original:

I have no vendetta against any Saints\' player. And I\'m not a real big college football fan, so, it has nothing to do with Notre Dame!

From MY point of view, Danno, Courtney Watson has a lot to prove before I\'m satisfied that he\'s THE guy. Just because I have some concerns about the guy does not mean I\'m hateing on Watson.

Watson may do well in his second season. Then again, he may not. If he doesn\'t perform the way we need him to, then what? What\'s your plan then, Danno?

My way of thinking is if we get a proven MLB then we can slide Watson over to WLB and he could still get some reps at MLB if we want to groom him for that spot.

It\'s a win/win situation.

However, it\'s Watson or bust if we don\'t pick up someone else.

Believe me, I would like nothing better than for Watson to have a break-out season. I just really don\'t want to take the risk. Not when we don\'t have to.

Look, it\'s debateable what LB position is the most important. I think it\'s MLB. It really makes no difference. We need both a good WLB and MLB.

I\'ll say this again ... Because we have be as inept at MLB for so long, I might just be frustrated and be overreacting. But, that\'s the way I feel. I\'m ready for that not to be a concern anymore.

Now, try this:

I have no vendetta against any Saints\' player...

From MY point of view, [BILLY], [AARON BROOKS] has a lot to prove before I\'m satisfied that he\'s THE guy. Just because I have some concerns about the guy does not mean I\'m hating on [BROOKS].

[BROOKS] may [FINALLY] do well in his [FIFTH] season [AS STARTER]. Then again, he may not. If he doesn\'t perform the way we need him to, then what? What\'s your plan then, [BILLY]?

My way of thinking is if we get a proven [QB] then we can [HAVE AN OPEN CONTEST AND LET THE BEST QB WIN] and [BROOKS] could still get some reps at [QB] if we want to groom him for that spot.

It\'s a win/win situation.

However, it\'s [BROOKS] or bust if we don\'t pick up someone else.

Believe me, I would like nothing better than for [BROOKS] to have a break-out season. I just really don\'t want to take the risk. Not when we don\'t have to.

Look, it\'s debateable [WHETHER THE QB] position is the most important. I think it [IS]. It really makes no difference. We need both a good [STARTING QB AND BACK UP/FUTURE STARTER].

I\'ll say this again ... Because we have be as inept at [QB] for so long, I might just be frustrated and be overreacting. But, that\'s the way I feel. I\'m ready for that not to be a concern anymore.

Hhhhmmm... now if I said that, how would Billy respond? Would he point to that last paragraph and suggest that I really am overreacting and letting my personal feelings (of hate) affect my judgment - thus skewing it? This sounds an awful lot like agenda talk to me.

Man, I am glad someone finally connected the dots, and it wasn\'t me. I think BNB was sniffing at it earlier, and baron. Nice substitutions.

WhoDat --

I have no problem with anyone who suggests we would be better off with another QB. What I\'ve always had a problem with is \"folks\" trying to pin everything in the world on Brooks.

I\'d be willing to settle for a rookie \"stud\" linebacker to come in and replace a one-year starter in Courtney Watson. But, I would not be willing to let a rookie QB come in and start for Aaron Brooks.

If you can get me Peyton Manning, Culpepper, McNabb or one of the other top QBs in the NFL, then bring \'em in here and let\'s get rid of Brooks.

Last thing:

I\'m well aware that Courtney Watson is not totally to blame for the defense\'s lack of success. And I never tried to pin all the blame on him like some folks have done Brooks. And that is the difference, my man...

Did this just turn into a Brooks\'s debate? LOL... Oh, well, this thread had about died anyway...LMAO!

too funny- I had thought that from the beginning..but didn\'t want to be the one to point it out.

the REAL question is then..what is more important your QB or you MLB/OLB?

Good question, baronm. How many superbowls has Peyton Manning won? Ray Lewis? The Pats linebackes?

yeah..but could ray lewis have been having an off year and the ravens still win? was the pats win because of their linebackers?

I think when looking at impact positions..linebackers are important..but a good squad can beat one or two great players..I think QB and RB are positions that can impact the game quicker...but honestly that\'s another thread.
