I really hope a extention gets worked out soon. I want to see him retire a Saint in 3 years after breaking every record. For him to do that he will need to take a pay cut this year and recover his money the following 2 years when the dead money falls off. Give the man a 3 year 70 million contract. 20 this year and 25 the following 2 years. He is worth keeping.

I'd give him 3 years, $50 million. That's a little over $16.5 million a year. At his age, it's fair.

Actually you do. Brees has a contract. All he has to do is nothing. He already has $10 million for the upcoming season in the bank. The team is already on the hook for it.

So the Saints has to negotiate fairly or they are left with two options: be on the hook for $30 million for Brees for the upcoming season, or to cut him.

So fair negotiation is using market value. And overpaid or not, guys like the ones above determine market value.
